Grand Theft Auto IV: Sixty second load time revealed in leaked in-game Xbox 360 footage

Xenctuary | April 24, 2008 | Video | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
For those who can't wait until next Tuesday, another gameplay video of Grand Theft Auto IV has been posted online. The footage again comes from the leaked Xbox 360 version of the game, but is of decidedly higher quality than previous efforts.

Included is a capture of the initial loading process, shown for just under a minute upon game boot. The name of what appears to be the last completed mission is shown in the bottom right corner. There are no other load screens in the game.

Grand Theft Auto fans watch at your own peril!

Remember that this is the only load screen in the entire game, so a minute is more than acceptable. Plus the artwork is cool to look at!

I suspect the PlayStation 3 load time will be similar, if not faster due to its mandatory installation.

Yeah, 60 seconds each time I put turn the game on is nothing compared to the amount of time I will spend playing the game.

For those wondering, the two rap songs played on the car radios are "The Crackhouse" by Fat Joe featuring Lil' Wayne and "Cha Cha Cha" by MC Lyte.

That's probably the purpose behind the optional HD install.

      Un no, try Mandatory install

Also the title is misleading, i just saw it before i came in and thought this was bad. 60s is a long time. And if the PS3 version can cut it down to half or more, than i say the Installation is awesome(as if i wasn't going to say it regardless ).

I believe DragoniteBallZ was referring to the rumoured optional installation for the Xbox 360 version.

And I fail to see how the title is misleading. It's nothing but fact. And sixty seconds is not a long time for the only loading process in the game.

Please take time to think before you write comments in the future. Half of them make little sense at all.

I clearly stating why in my post
          quote

Wait this is for the opening credits?
Well couldn't you have stated this in the title? Cause the quote mislead me into think the loading time in the game were that long.

Also the 360 version can't have intall, not all 360's has a Harddrive and even if it was an install, the core users hurt from this.

Core user's won't be affected. They just won't have the option of the optional install. I've never seen an Xbox 360 game with such a feature in the past, so it'd be interesting to see how it all works and what advantages it brings.

In regards to the confusion over the load screen, I did try and be as clear as possible in article's description that it only appears upon game boot. If you feel that the article would benefit with an altered title, please do send me a message and I'll have it edited for you.

          What a fiasco!

Well i just think that the title should say "opening Credits 60s long" Or something cause i was confused thinking it was during the game. Sorry about my post though.
Its optional for the 360 users? Interesting, i wonder why they chose the PS3 to be mandatory?

And im sure your referring to the Jmac thing

That's the same question Capcom were asked about the Devil May Cry 4 installation debacle. There wasn't even any discernible advantage of installing to the drive!

the 3d gta games have always had long load times upon first starting them up. who cares. you load once, and never have to do it again.

i can't wait until these nitpicking 'GTA4 on PS3 VS 360' articles are over with.

Technically you do have to load again, the devs just hide it behind death screens, cutscenes and mission cutaways... If this was a mission cutaway where it is just black screen with the mission name in the corner then 60 seconds is a long time since thats not an initial load lol.

BANDITO ATTACK, I think you misunderstood the point of this article. It's not at all a comparison between the two versions, it's merely stating something that we didn't know before. Along with some sweet gameplay footage, of course!

But I do echo your sentiments on the ridiculousness of nitpicking over the two releases. I reckon that'll end sometime in 2012.
