Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe: I Challenge You To... Detective Kombat!

Storm | April 18, 2008 | Video | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
In each title's first official cross-over game, Midway has teamed up with DC Comics to bring us Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. Set for release this fall, it looks to be one brutal fighting game...let's just hope that they keep what made Mortal Kombat famous in there.

At a Midway press event in Las Vegas on Thursday, Mortal Kombat series creator Ed Boon took the stage to announce and show a teaser for the next Mortal Kombat game. This was no surprise; it's something of a tradition for Midway events. What was surprising was who was going at it in the brief trailer: One character was perennial favorite Sub-Zero....
The other was Batman.

"We have characters throwing each other off buildings, through buildings, and fighting [while] falling from one arena to the next," said Boon. "In addition, our new 'Klose Kombat' is a brutal, up-close fighting mechanic with damage, torn clothing, and bruising."

To tie the franchises together, the team hired seasoned comic writers Jimmy Palmiotti (Painkiller Jane, Marvel Knights) and Justin Gray (Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight). The two will work closely with the designers to craft a fiction that weaves the DC and MK mythologies together.

Big thanks to Silent Storm for bringing this to my attention.

This is an odd crossover to say the least. You've got guys like Batman going hand-to-hand 'Kombat' with Subzero, a destructive character of MK...we know they'll add Superman, who will be nerfed to get damaged. MvC worked but this, I don't know. Still, the graphics are grim and cool for MK standards as well as DC (at least on Batman's side of things), and though I'm not expecting much on the story, it looks pretty fun, admittedly.

Hey leave me alone, I see your name and I get confused on how it's properly done.

I actually used a '0' at the end but edited it. xD

Hey kspiess thanks for that link i was going to ask either you or krunal about those neovids.

I don't see how anyone is surprised about this, i mean they have done marvel vs Capcom and DC before, it was inevitable that this would happen. And a good idea too, looks pretty sick i'll definitely pick it up.

Well I never in my life would have seen this coming... I knew another Mortal Kombat game was to be made sooner or later. But DC Characters versus Mortal Kombat? It sounds like it will be a lot of fun, but totally unexpected. Hopefully this title will be Next Gen.

This is the biggest joke I have ever seen in my video game life. If it somehow turns out good, then so be it. But, I think Midway is just seriously reaching for something these days.

    Whoa...you work fast Storm.

Lol, but I still can't believe they're doing this. Serious case of grabbing for straws here, but they know that people are going to buy it anyway...

The entire Justice League is from DC. That includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Hawkgirl.

Stitch, everyone you mentioned (except Superman) is from Marvel. Marvel =/= DC.

It's just a teaser clip. They're not going to show the entire game.

This is probably me being cynical and pedantic, but I ain't feeling this. I loved playing Marvel Vs DC in the arcades when I was little and me and my brother still occasionally dust off the PS2 and go a few rounds at MK: Deception but a MK/DC crossover just seems... not right. Still, as long as the combat styles aren't too different and as long as the game doesn't focus too much on story (because no matter what they play it as, the story will suck ) it could be fun.

Gosh, first we've got Star Wars in Soul Calibur and now this What's the world coming to [/old man speech]

Edit: lol, I just had the image of Deathstroke going toe to toe with Scorpion in my head awesome

That would be sweet, heh. Deathstroke vs Scorp...I just hope they include a good amount of DC villains.

    Mr. Freeze vs Sub-Zero.

I don't mind the fact that the DC characters will be in it. I actually kind of like this idea. But I hope they just decide to keep the fatalities. But of course, Armageddon didn't have real fatalities either. I really hope they aren't gone for good!

    Awesome!
It sucks that it's only for PS3 and 360, though.
