Far Cry 2 GDC 08' Tech Demo

tekmosis | February 22, 2008 | Video | PC Game Developers Conference 2008
In what I can only describe as mind blowing. The next installment of the Far Cry series was demonstrated in a tech demo at GDC 08' unfortunately this was taken with a cam so the quality isn't superior, even through they provide both SD and HD.

I wont spoil it but at the end of part 2 your head will just explode. Enjoy!

Gorgeous! It'd be interesting to see how well CryEngine 2 could do a dynamic weather system in comparison. We've already seen them both do dynamic day and night and they look pretty much identical to each other. Still though, the lighting in CryEngine 2 is superior, it's a little more exaggerated in the Dunia engine.

Also, the "vegetation growth" isn't that impressive really. It's just a scaling model as seen in the video. The guy mentions it won't be in the game because it looks weird. Well the reason for this is not because it's happening so fast, it's because it's happening so unrealistically. It's just bits of the model that scale in strange directions, unlike real vegetation growth.

True, it is un-natural but it's still pretty cool to see a scene dynamically generated/grow, though (:
