Surprise, surprise. Jack Thompson blames Illinois shooting on video games!

Gothic Girl | February 15, 2008 | Video | PC Playstation 3
Today Fox News interviewed "campus shooting expert" Jack Thompson about the Illinois shooting, and despite the police knowing barely anything about the killer or his motives, Jack is quick to dive in and blame "murder simulators, called video games".
If you think Jack couldn't sound any more ridiculous, this video will soon change your mind. At one point he links the killer's attire to violent video games, then goes on to promote his own book. Disrespectful, much?

Surprisingly, the Fox interviewer seems a little dubious about Jack's reasoning.

Jack Thompson is interviewed on Fox News on Feb. 15, 2008 in regards to the Illinois school shooting. Jack blames video games for the shooting even prior to the first press conference by law enforcement.

"Someone who has studied campus shootings..." BULLSHIT. He purposely goes through stories and picks things out to link to video games in some screwed up way. Stupid jackass! Then of course just like that chick on Fox saying crap about Mass Effect, he's gotta promote his book. Nice publicity.

Wow, I'm sure movies these days aren't violent. Open your *bleep*ing eyes for a change, Thompson, there are bigger fish to fry.

Wow this guys an idiot who knows no bounds. Is it just me or During 1:47-1:56 when he claims he lost his train of thought sounded more like Bullshit and him trying to make more things up as he goes along. What a tool.

This is low, even for Jack Thompson. There's no evidence that video games were related in any way shape and or form, yet this ambulance chaser makes goes and makes phantom connections. I live about a half hour away from Northern Illinois University, and I have many friends who go to NIU (none of whom were injured thankfully) and to see this man pull something completely unrelated into the mix is just ridiculous.

Future reference. If any one from GameGrep/Neo decides to shoot up a school. Sell all your gaming shit first.

Better yet sell all your gaming stuff. And spend the money on every bit of literature Jack Thompson, Hilary Clinton, and Joe Lieberman has ever written.

It's pathetic that he has used a tragedy like the Illinois shooting as an excuse to promote his own book. That's a new low for Jack.

I got a laugh out of the interviewer at the end. It looked like he thought Jack was talking nothing but shit. XD

And wasn't it proven that The Virginia Tech killer didn't play video games much? Didn't he only play Counter-Strike once, and with friends? But of course Jack would blow that out of proportion and make it seem like Cho "trained" on the game. Pfft.

It was indeed proven. Thompson's just being a dumbass as usual and doing everything he can to advance his own agenda. And to think we actually got a break from this guy for a while...

Yea thats right games are fully to blame, it has nothing to do with the readily available guns in America...... nooooooo god forbid if it was that.

was it just me or did he refer to a game as "counter strike: half life" like it is the same game, maybe i just hear him wrong.

You heard him correctly. Again, it's just Thompson being his typical idiotic self who's trying to make himself look like some sort of omniscient being when it's doubtful that he even knows how to fold a paper bag.

Not very surprising at all. He's Jack Thompson! What else do you expect of him? Of course, I never expected this, but it's not too much of a surprise either.

The only thing I blame on video games is the creation of jack thompson. Seriously, he thinks all the violence in the world is caused by video games. Ive played video games since i was 6 years old (im now 18) and I have never felt encoraged to, say... go on a shooting spree though my uni or savagely torture a friend who annoyied me and I think around 99% of people like me are the same.

Nothing has proven that the killer was fueled by games to do this or even owned a console. (Maybe because the shooting was on valentines day could have been why). Jack needs to chill.

Games dont kill people, people kill people. (Couldnt resist the last bit after I read the first bit back lol)

"Jack Thompson, why do you think _________________?"
"Well, as you know people can use video games to learn to kill; they're called video games."
"We only asked you if you thought it might rain later..."

As does everyone else with half a brain, it seems >_>

It is pretty pathetic if even a Fox News interviewer thinks you're talking BS >_>

Whacko Jacko has show he can go just a bit lower than he already has....Even if you're the ignorant type that things games = murder simulators, you have to think the shameless plug is in poor taste >_>

Man, this guy just doesn't know when to quit, does he?
Always blame on videogames first, I think even the news reporter thought by himself: "Here he goes again about videogames", and then starts rambling about his book.
    This guy is pathetic.

This is big news here as i live in the state of Illinois. This guy needs to read the newspapers. The man who was the shooter took medication to keep him sane. And they said that he had recientley stopped taking his meds. So you can't blame it on games it was him not taking meds.

That doesn't matter to Jack Thompson. Any time anything tragic happens, he instantly tries to paint video games as the primary reason behind what happened.

Man, I only wish I could see him in the 1920's when video games weren't even around. What would he be blaming everything on then, silent movies?

Interesting Cho was also taking medication as well, and im assuming he stopped taking them and that led to that mess. Wow it seems people miss the vital information like Medication and their mental disorder.
