Adding bikini models to gaming commercials doesn't always work ...

Gothic Girl | January 25, 2008 | Video | Wii
Many Japanese games use popular bikini models in their commercials to gain more sales. Sex sells, right? Well, not always. In the most recent trailer for the Wii game Oneechanbara Revolution a Japanese model was used ... And she has all the personality of a rock, showing no emotion or excitement while she plays the game. She sure doesn't make the game seem like it's worth playing.
Thankfully the gameplay itself seems to make up for that.

Hahaha, funny. xD Reminds me of...Dynasty Warriors, and Final Fantasy X-2. Then it has Ninja Gaiden gameplay elements and the zombies which makes me think about Resident Evil. Interesting game, looks like the model is trying too hard to look interested.

      You'd be surprised.
There are a fair few Japanese people who buy games simply because their favorite actor/singer/model appeared in the commercial.

The game Bujingai is a fine example of this. It was a pretty average action game, but it sold exceptionally well in Japan just because the main character was modelled off the popular Japanese singer Gackt.

This game looks awesome, even if the model doesnt look like shes enjoying herself

It doesn't work but she would work for me

Is this game a combination of Dynasty and Dawn of the Dead or something?

Can't watch the vid on my PS3 (I MIGHT check it out eventualy though)...

Oneechan = Big Brother or something? Or Big Sister? Or little brother/sister?

I get confused by those references, since they sound the same (more or less) to me >_>

Oneechan is little sister I believe. "chan" is used for girls as I've learnt. And "san" is used for elders. So can't be big sister or big brother or little brother.

Actually "chan" can be used for both males and females, but it's more common to be used for (and by) females.

Though Oneechan is indeed a rather informal way of saying "big sister" ("Oneesan" is more polite/formal).
Whereas Oniichan is informal for "big brother", and imouto is "little sister".

I know how to get people to buy games.. have a supermodel of each gender stand in from of the displays and say If you buy this game I'll have sex with you. It couldn't possibly fail...

On a system that was made generally for kids, this isn't going to help boost sales for this game. At all.

Yes, but its games tend to be very "clean", if you get me.

And this commercial was pointless. Not only were the in-game characters emotionless, so was the bikini model. Being a man, I won't say scantily clad girls in commercials isn't eye-catching...but this was just terrible.
