Forget bikini models. Let's use Comedians to promote games instead!

Gothic Girl | July 03, 2008 | Video | DS
Forget using bikini models and sex appeal to promote video-games. Australia is taking a different approach, and using comedians to publicize games and consoles instead.

Popular TV/Radio star and Comedian Hamish Blake is the first to show up in a commercial for DS ...

I don't know about you, but 2Day FM's Hamish Blake is a funny guy. Along with Tony Martin, his appearances were by far the best on Ten's Thank God You're Here. But enough about that! Nintendo has recruited Blake for a local TV spot advertising the publisher's Cooking Guide on DS. You won't wet yourself, but it's definitely worth a couple of laughs.

Nintendo says the ad will appear starting from tonight, so consider this a sneak peek. We like those, we do.

Ahhhh Hamish, great comedian, along with Andy too. Granted this was probably some of Hamish's weakest stuff that I've seen, but it was still fairly funny.

That's too true. I know for a fact the sex appeal works, since I have friends who purchase a game partially based on the chick on the cover... but this would really appeal to more people. ;D

Haha, I'm sure many guys (Like your friends) will be disappointed but I'm sure when a girl who's interested in a game see's naked women playing it they sorta get the wrong impression (Or get curious? =D). Either way, it's a good, new approach to advertising.

Hamish and Andy are anything but funny. They, like Rove, make very forced jokes in an attempt at crass humour and it just doesn't work for anyone with a pinch of brains.

Pretty much sums up the majority of Australian comedians... Peter Hellier, Corrine Grant, Dave Hughes, Ryan Shalton, etc.
I don't get a laugh out of any of them and can't understand why they';re so popular :/

Though I get a few laughs out of Hamish and Andy. They're hilarious when they appear on Spicks and Specks. Probably because those jokes don't sound so forced and "prepared".
