Sessler's Soapbox: Attention Bigots

Deathsythe | June 13, 2008 | Video | XBOX 360
For this week’s Sessler’s Soapbox on G4, Adam Sessler brings up an issue that’s old, but still unfortunately valid. That is, he, like many people, is fed up with the amount of racist and homophobic talk on Xbox Live. As he points out, the situation is just getting uglier all the time

I think if it's done in jest and everyone knows, it's more than fine. The thing is, the line between sarcasm and ridicule is bluring, and that's not good.

I must be lucky then.I'm pretty sure I've never heard racist remarks over PSN.I've also seldom heard people swear at each other over PSN.

Probably should have put that in response to Zero's comment.

Chances are it is due to the fact that PSN is lacking headsets in the majority of cases, it has them but most of the people that have them are gamers like Sessy here, adults that know how to talk, where as XBL every gamer gets a headset even the 5 year old kid that got a 360 for his brithday.

I agree that the cowards playing games online are a sad story, but an old story as well. This is just what we are. This is the society that we live in and there is ignorance everywhere in the real world. The only difference gaming online is that these people feel comfortable behind their internet connections where I can't stomp a mud hole in their ass. Thats why I call them cowards. These little racists would not dare pop off in your face.

I haven't run into much of this on Call of Duty 4, on Halo 3 it was another story though...

Sessler hits another nail on the head here. I can't stand people who act tough and big through a game...where they are safe at home.

My roommate and I were being personally attacked over Live once by literally a 12 year old kid.

We grabbed the sniper rifle on Valhalla, and this kid started flipping, and just harassed us and shot us with his pistol while we were trying to get some kills. He kept going on and on about how we were terrible, and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, and he was the greatest sniper in the game and blah blah blah blah...

He eventually slipped and killed me, so I kicked him - and sure enough two other players (undoubtedly his friends) also dropped. The lag wasn't so bad afterwards.

After the game he sent us a really annoying message so we proceeded to invite him into a 2 on 2 match, subsequently kicked his and his friend's ass, and told him to come back when he hit puberty and he was adopted.

But that is as far as we take it. I'm not the kind to go insulting peoples' mothers or scream profanity or racial slurs.
