You've gotta love Metal Gear Solid humor! Otacon loves PS3 and Blu-Ray.

Gothic Girl | June 10, 2008 | Video | Playstation 3
Who doesn't love it when Metal Gear Solid characters break the "fourth wall"? It always gives the games a fun and unique sense of humor. Remember when Psycho Mantis read our Memory Cards in MGS1, then asked us how we were liking other Konami games such as Castlevania? Ah, good memories.

Well that humor is back in MGS4. Here is a brief codec scene beween Snake and Otacon discussing the greatness of PS3 and Blu-Ray ...

Minor Spoilers:

Metal Gear Solid 4, 'insert disc 2'

This isn't going to spoil the story for you, but it may spoil a funny joke hidden within Metal Gear Solid 4. We don't want to say anything more, or it might just ruin the surprise ...

quote
Otacon: Hold it, Snake. Time to change the disc. I know, I know... It's a pain. But you need to swap Disc 1 for Disc 2. You see the disc labeled "2"?

Snake: Uhhhh. No.

Otacon: Huh? Oh, wait! We're on PS3 system! It's a Blu-ray Disc. Dual-layered, too—no need to swap.

Snake: Damn it, Otacon, get a grip!

Otacon: Yeah, what an age we live in, huh, Snake? Wonder what they'll think of next!

Actually no. You needed to swap controller ports not memory cards to beat Mantis.

This is funny though. Typical Konami humour. I wonder what other stuff is in the game similar to this.

Who said anything about swapping Memory Cards? If you have a Konami game saved on your Memory Card, then Psycho Mantis will "read your mind" and comment on the other Konami games that you have been playing.

You swap controller ports later on during the actual battle.

Yeah, it's the memory cards he reads, or else I wouldn't have shit myself when he said "SO YOU LIKE KONAMI GAMES" (Because he wouldn't have known).

LOL Why do I get the sense this was a stab at 360. I mean swapping discs, then again it could have been a joke from the past PS titles as well. Still great joke though.

It wasn't a stab at 360 at all, It was a reference to how MGS was on 4 discs back on psx.

What the hell version of MGS1 did you have? MGS1 was on 2 discs not 4.

Thats what I also thought, still I can see the other side how people may take offense cause they interpret it as a stab to 360. It already happened in the MGS4 forum, thats why I stated it in my comment.

I don't know of any 360 games that have to swap discs. Not really a stab at anything, I'd say. -.-

Lost Odyssey was like old-school Final Fantasy. That in itself is awesome.

But if you're going by reviews - It was mostly successful. Judging by a few comments in the forum it was "what FFXII should have been".

Fatal some people in the MGS4 forum thought it was a stab at the 360 that they were saying "Only the PS3 can play MGS4 without the need for using multiple discs". Even though most know that argument is pretty weak. Still I can understand both sides though.

For some reason I was under the impression that Lost Odyssey sucked.=/ Of course, I didn't play the game so take that for whatever it's worth.

Haha, I absolutely love the breaking of the "fourth wall" in Metal Gear games. I wonder if we'll be told to turn off our console this time again!
