Another Grand Theft Auto IV review ... from a different perspective

Zeromage | May 13, 2008 | Reviews | Playstation 3
This is a video game review of Grand Theft Auto IV for the Playstation 3. The review is from the perspective of an old school, retro gamer. The reviewer attempts to not be drawn in by the hype surrounding the game.
The level of hype surrounding Grand Theft Auto IV is something we haven’t seen since the childhood memory-killing Episode I. As such, we wanted to wait a while before we reviewed this game, just to make sure we could give our readers an honest review to the game. And now, several weeks after the game’s release we can safely say that it really is as amazing as everyone says. Even before playing Grand Theft Auto IV, the intro song for the loading screen is eerily amazing. It gives you chills as you get the feeling you are ramping up for one of the most intense experiences of your life. The world has gone wild for this smash hit release. Obviously we know there have been three prior releases and has gone overboard with itself…again. As if killing people 182 different ways in the previous chapters of GTA was not enough, you now have even more options and tools for death and destruction. As an added bonus, all of this is displayed to the gamer in beautiful 1080p high definition and surround sound crystal clear high fidelity audio offered by the current generation of gaming consoles.

Ummmm, not so much....720p on the 360, 640p on the PS3....Can be upscaled, but meh, graphics aren't that great....Great for a GTA game maybe, I guess >_>

There are a ton of Radio Stations though....Pity I mostly just care for the music on "The Journey" station...

Tallteen, GTA hasn't been know for graphics, Its been know for its cartoony feel.
So the graphics is perfect for GTA, its not overly bad but its not Overly Outstanding. Its perfect for Next Gen GTA games.

Believe me when I tell you not even a PS3, hell not even the most powerful gaming computer to date would be able to handle GTA4 if it were natively 1080p.

The 360 and PS3 have issues rendering the graphics as it is. Making it 1080p would be a bit unnecessary, especially when you consider the character and texture models aren't particularly worth rendering at such a high resolution anyways.

"Here is a little how-to guide on how to run Grand Theft Auto at 1080p on the Playstation 3. If you have a 1080p set and the game keeps booting up in 720p all you need to do is disable the other resolutions, i will show you how to do that now…

Go to to the display option under settings
      Select video output settings
      Select HDMI
      Select custom
      Untick 1080i and 720p
      Press X
      Press X again
      Select finish
      Launch game

Please note that you need a 1080p HDTV in the 40″ range and preferably connected via HDMI."
