IGN Review: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

TwilightPrince | August 27, 2007 | Reviews | Wii
It's been a long time coming, but the wait is finally over. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was released today after a 10 month delay. However, according to IGN, the wait was totally worth it.

IGN is raving about this game, calling it 'the best in the Prime series', 'Wii's best looking game', 'spectacular controls', and even going as far as saying its 'better than any console first-person game before it'. It received an overall score of 9.5/10.

Retro Studios might have just created one of the best games of 2007.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was originally set to launch with Wii, but the year-long delay has been very much worth the wait. Call it a first- person shooter or a first-person adventure -- doesn't matter. I call it the best game on Nintendo's console. It is clear from the moment you pick up the controller that Prime 3 was developed exclusively for Wii. Not only do the new controls respond quicker and with more precision than any dual-analog-helmed FPS ever created, but the gesture system works brilliantly, too. Meanwhile, the title delivers everything a Metroid fan could hope for, including spectacular environmental puzzles, epic boss fights and intense combat, all wrapped up in a package that spans multiple worlds and is filled with re-traversal exploration. A cinematic storyline made possible by beautiful art and graphics rounds out the experience, which is complemented by a medal system and WiiConnect24 compatibility.

What is this, favoritism for Nintendo? xD Aren't these the same guys that gave Heavenly Sword a 7/10? Bah. Metroid Prime 3 is a highly anticipated game, seems to have lived up to it's expectations...can't wait to pick it up =D

Two different places. This is IGN with a different reviewer. Heavenly Sword was IGN UK.

Metroid Prime 3 seems like an awesome game. Can't wait to see the other scores.

Oh my god, awesome. Absolutely awesome. One of the games I have been wanting to play the most this year, and to get a score this high is great!

Now I just need to wait for it to come out in the UK. I simply cannot wait for this game.

According to the video review, it isn't as highly rated as the first Metroid Prime (9.8/10) because it isn't very different, and because of that it isn't as original.

Being the best Metroid Prime is a hell of a praise. Metroid Prime was a stunning game, I'm surprised this is even better. I guess the delay of nearly a year was well worth it. I've already pre-ordered the game and can't wait to go to EB Games and pick it up tomorrow.

I was surprised that IGN praised the controls as being 'better than any console first-person game before it'. It's great to see the Wii Remote's potential being put to great use.

Seriously, tbh MP3C doesnt tickle my fancy as i was raised into fps' by Halo, so Single Player FPS' just doesnt compute in my mind. But, till now, developers have been beating around the bush of good control, so i think this is the yellow brick road that future developers will follow to make great controlled FPS w/ Online Frag Fests. How cool would it be to Shoot at someone with an SMG (feeling the bullets rush from your wiimote) and then throwing a grenade with the nunchuk, that idea is what ispired me to get Wii, and i think this game will get dev's on the right track.

It isn't really much of an FPS, really. It's rather a hard to describe game. The Metroid Prime sub-series is superb, however. I wouldn't recommend missing out on it. If you go in expecting Halo, you will definitely be disappointed, just because it is so different. It isn't as full of thrills as Halo, it's a more thought-provoking game and the atmosphere will have you enjoying every minute of it.

It's not Halo, so don't expect a sub-par campaign like Halo's(not saying Halo is bad, but let's face it, it's a multiplayer-focused game). Metroid is a completely different beast. I suggest at least giving it a rental (and time). It might be a bit weird at first, however. I hated Metroid Prime when I first played it, but when I dug it out years later out of boredom, it quickly trumped even MGS2 as the my favourite game of the last generation. It's brilliant. I believe I've seen you in the Hunters forum, correct? Trust me, Retro's single player modes have been incredible so far. NST's work with Hunters' single player mode was an insult to Retro's work.

I never actually expected this game to get as high reviews as it is. I was planning to buy it later on down the road and still might but these reviews are leaning for me to get the game sooner. I guess I'll wait a bit to see fan reviews and all.

Looks like Nintendo hit another home run. This actually brightened my mood about the game. Can't wait until I get paid in two weeks. D:

To be honest, I don't give a *bleep*.

It has ZERO multiplayer, so I couldn't care any less about the game than I do now.

      Haha, your loss.

You'll be missing out on the chance to experience controls that are 'better then any console first-person game before it'. You can't experience that on any other console, buddy.

I don't care what reviewers say. The Wiimote doesn't impress me anymore.

I can get MUCH better and MUCH more accurate controls with a keyboard and mouse on my high-end PC.

I love how people gave me thumbs down because I stated my opinion by the way.

    Lol i raised it up...

Anyway im not really surprised about the score they gave it, this game looks really awesome and all, but really, Wii is the worst of the 3 IMO, its not even THAT "Next-gen".

If that was the truth, the game should've allowed a good COVER SYSTEM (a la Rainbow Six Vegas), I'm sorry I know Metroid is good, but to give it "THE BEST FPS CONSOLE CONTROLS" is one of the biggest overstatements I've seen in my life.
