EGM: Halo 3 vs. Killzone - Which AI Is Better?

xsynergyx | September 04, 2007 | Previews | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
Electronic Gaming Monthly has decided to pit Halo 3 for the Xbox 360 against Killzone 2 for the Playstation 3 and compare the AI. In short, they say that Halo 3 has really smart enemies, but it's the total opposite for the Killzone 2 and it has dumb enemies. While they can't know for sure which will be better we shall soon be able to see for ourselves with the releases of the two games.
This is a direct contradiction from the latest hands-on by IGN and Game Informer, whom actually chose to note the positives of the early version of the game in relation to the "aggressively good" intelligence of the game.

I saw this in EGM earlier. I found it kind of funny since people are always comparing the two. I doubt Killzone will outshine Halo 3.

Graphically, Killzone beats the living shit out of Halo 10x over.

But gameplay-wise, I'm having doubt on Killzone, since the first level seems so damn easy...I bet I can pass the first level on my first try in the hard difficulty.

Why in the hell are they comparing Killzone to Halo 3 in the first place?!

Because that series is what Sony themselves dubbed the game as a competetor to to begin with.

EGM seems to be going more and more for attention/drama, just because they have the venue for it. How can you compare two games, especially something as specific as AI, when they aren't even yet available? At least Halo 3 is completed, but still, I doubt they have played a high enough build of either game to compare the AI.

So they only make one example of the AI? Enemies jumping over cover to come assault you? Kinda like how we road up on the Beaches of Normandy and just rushed it.

Despite that, most of what we've seen so far of Killzone 2 has been scripted, those enemies ALWAYS jump over that thing in every instance of that demonstration I've seen.

Besides, I'm pretty sure having played Halo 1 and Halo 2 I have seen those bitches rush me more than use cover. I'd say the ratio to rushing and using cover is about 9/10 times they rush you instead of using cover.

So to even begin with "The smart get smarter" is a joke to begin with.

As said, EGM just likes to get attention and start shit, as does any publication.

Isn't Killzone 2 like 8 months away from being released? Who is saying that what they saw was the final version of the AI? Seems pretty sad that they are comparing a game that comes out in a few weeks to a game that comes out in a few months and is still in development

That's what I thought as well, Killzone 2 is slated for a March 08 release I believe. Halo 3 is damn near finished or already is and they're just mass producing them to prepare for launch.

You can't compare a game that is finish to a game that is still in process, isn't killzone 2 in alpha state. Seriously If they want to compare games, do it to finish products. Since its not done yet Killzone 2 could potentially beat halo 3 in its finish state, but since its not done you can't compare them.

Killzone 2 thus far has been shown off on easy mode with god mode turned on... The AI is alot smarter than we have seen one because they are not showing that off yet and two the game is pre alpha running with dev access codes.

Well I agree with whoever said not to judge to two. Yet. Sure, go ahead and judge it when they are both out(which Killzone 2 will be awhile), but when they're out and you want to judge the AI, gameplay, etc., then fine, but please don't do it now when we know next to nothing about Halo 3, let alone Killzone 2.
