GOW 2 and Resistance 2 Head To Head

Coltrain | July 01, 2008 | Previews | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
The two gaming heavyweights go toe to toe this coming November when Resistance 2 and Gears Of War 2 are due to be unchained. How do they compare? Find out in this article which gives you a detailed run down of the features of each and compares the latest gameplay footage.
More information will be available as we come closer to the launch date, but there looks to be little between these two fantastic sounding titles so far. I'll hold off on my own verdict and let you be the judges.

Going by the number of improvements on face value alone Resistance 2 is looking better, but the lack of improvements in Gears of War 2 could mean that the original was good enough not to need anything, i think online gamers will adore the 60 player online and the co-op campaign of Resistance 2. I think they will match each other for single player campaign, it will come down to which is the longest.

Resistance 1 was no where near as good as the original Gears.

They'd need a massive improvement to compete with Gears 2.

How massive, exactly? If Gears 2 actually manages to get more than 8 players in one room (Even though 10 doesn't even sound thrilling), actually make strategic points in multiplayer maps, seamless 4 (AT LEAST) player co-op...THAT would be massive improvements.

No, Resistance 2 is doing more than just fine.

Gears would not work well with tons of players, Gears 2 will have 5v5 which will just be enough. It makes people work together instead of everyone running around like madmen.

The game's run n' gun as it is...I don't see how adding more people is going to change anything, besides the fact that there would be more people rolling around the place.

Even 8v8 would be a chainsaw fest. You couldn't go anywhere without some dude stepping around a corner with a chainsaw revved.

I really don't see what point you're trying to make with this comment.

Means that Resistance 2 has no problem competing against Gears 2 despite popular belief.

You can wait for the reviews, I'm getting both games...main point of the whole thing here is the common mistake of disregarding games without prior knowledge or just empty statements.

I have prior knowledge of both games I was talking about. I've completed both games.

I was talking about the original Resistance and the original Gears of War.

Woah, both are being released at the same time? That's a real clash of the titans there. Good news for gamers who want to buy both, though! I can't imagine GoW2 online being better than the first, which was pretty amazing, but I'm sure it will be!

Resistance needs a better first person campaign. 1's was too dire to really bother with, and it was only the online that kept me playing it.

I honestly think they'll be very similar games. I mean the first installments were very different from eachother, but I think that in terms of the "feel" of the games, the sequels be nearly identical to eachother.

It's hard for me to decide which one I think will come out on top...

its a hard choice.. the storys in gow1 and resistance1 where pretty much the same
im going for resistance 2 its a longer single player and GOW2 4-player online
cant match resistance 60-player. its just more for my money

I forgot about the 60-player online! Okay, nevermind, this is not a difficult decision for me.

I'm almost certain I'll get Resistance 2 first. I think I'll worry about GoW2 later.

Hmm, I don't own a 360, but I think Gears was better than FoM. However, FPS vs erm TPS? I think, for me, the story in FoM was deeper than it was on Gears, but I think Gears' gameplay kicked FoM's arse. From the recent trailer, I don't see much has changed for FoM. So at this moment in time, i'ld say they'ld be drawing, due to FoM's, what I think is superior online play, and the split screen co-op.

I'll play Gears 2 before Resistance 2 any day, but I am still waiting for more news on Killzone 2.

I thought that was God of war lol

I've never played Gears but from what I've seen of R2 it looks like a game that could be a classic.

This is apples and oranges, s'what it is. Just because they both have invading aliens does not put them in the same game category...or does it?

This article would appeal to people who own both consoles or fanboys. And if you've got the money for a PS3 AND Xbox 360, I doubt money will be an issue, so purchasing both games isn't going to be a terrible loss. As for fanboys, well... why should anyone care otherwise?

These games are not identical, but I've always seen Resistance as Sony's rebuttal to Gears of War for PS3 gamers. It may or may not be better than Gears, but it's flippin' exclusive so why should anyone who has a 360 really care about this inane argument? And from what I have seen, it IS inane because people keep bringing up different issues that all point to the same verdict ---> THEY'RE NOT THE SAME GAME, STOP COMPARING.

Too true. I plan on buying both as I enjoyed the first titles quite a bit. As a matter of fact, Resistence and Gears were the first games I bought for each console. I could care less about which one is better. I'm getting them both.

Lol, I actually think Resistance and GoW were my first games for each console as well. I got the Limited Edition of Gears months before I got a 360, just because I knew it was something I definitely wanted.
