Confirmed: PS3 Version Bioshock To Be Released In October

Krunal | May 28, 2008 | Press Release | Playstation 3
All we had prior to this was rumours... well it has now been confirmed by 2K Games themselves that it will be releasing in October of this year... the game is of course Bioshock
BioShock for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows® was released in 2007 and received numerous Game of the Year honors from prestigious organizations including Associated Press, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), Game Informer, Spike TV’s VGAs and Paste Magazine. BioShock’s extension to the PLAYSTATION 3 system will bring exciting new content to this amazing title and reach many new players, while giving the title the opportunity to once again be named Game of the Year.

“Since BioShock for Xbox 360 and Games for Windows won countless 2007 Game of the Year awards, we are excited to see the impact of this stellar title for the PLAYSTATION 3 system when it debuts this fall,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Over the coming months we look forward to revealing the new features and content that will make this a must-have game for its new audience, as well as for those who enjoyed it on the other platforms.”

This is nice for those of us who doesn't have neither a 360 nor a powerful computer to play this game on. Really looking forward to its release.

I think a PS3 would probably cost more than it would to upgrade your PC..haha. But yeah, if you have it already for the features and games, its good stuff. More Bioshock the merrier, I say.

As I figured, it would come with extra content. Probably all the DLC on the 360 version. And who knows, maybe something else?

In any case, if it is reasonably priced, I might pick it up. I might wait to get it used though (yeah, I'm cheap, ATM I don't have a lot of money....)....

I don't think there was any DLC. Not anything you had to pay for anyway.

If there's anything interesting (and I don't mean a few extra plasmids) I might get the PS3 version as well.

The question is will it live up to the 360 quality? And will it get good sales?
Cause Everyone who wanted one already has it, so I don't see alot of success for it, since around October there is other games coming out that be worth getting than this game.

Its no longer a question seeming how its confirmed. But this question will decide if people will get it, and if its worth getting. October there is other games, possible PS3 hit games coming out, so its going to take out the thunder of the game even if it matches 360 quality.

Besides many people who wanted it already has it, so thats going hurt it sales along with the other games.

        1) Of course it will live up to the quality.

        2) Who cares about the sales? It's not like this game has online multiplayer either, so it doesn't matter if your friends are getting it or not.

How so? PS3 has gotten its fair share of bad ports. Who doesn't care about sales? Seeker if this game gets 300,000 sales theoretically for 6 months will that be good, for both the devs and PS3? No it won't, believe it or not thats what killed Crysis and Blue Dragon.

Also its coming out at the time where PS3 big titles are releasing. No one will even pick this game up.

I just gave you a thumbs up because I agree that I think a lot of people have both systems and if they wanted to play it they probably already own it. As for will it live up the 360 quality??? that was a pretty dumb statement.

Final Blade is right, no matter how many people try to thumb him down. Nobody is saying that it is a bad move to get BioShock on the PS3, but it might be a bad move to put it right in October, where a lot of big games for the PS3 this year are coming out. You got Home, Little Big Planet, Resistance 2 and MGS4 is surely going to still be going strong, so how many people will bother themselves with the ported BioShock? The game has already been out for a year, so a lot of people who wanted it probably already have it. We all know Sony expects it to get good sales, but I doubt this port will be as successful as the Xbox 360 version.

Whew. Alright, let the thumbing down begin.

The main point is...WHY should you bother with sales? This is something for the Publisher/Developer to worry about, not the consumer. I really don't see a downfall for me if BioShock doesn't meet its expectations. I'm buying the game and that's the end of the story for me.

What other choice do they have? Wait even longer and give PS3 owners an outdated game or put it out sooner and give PS3 owners an unfinished port? Of course it won't sell as much as the 360 version, thats obvious, but since when has options been a bad thing? Not everyone buys the "must have" games. If that was true, then every single console owner would have GTA IV, but plenty of people hate the series. Every game has its audience. And MGS4 will have died down before then.

Oh gee I don't know maybe release it, on a month, where no big PS3 hits are coming out. Cause lets be realistic, are you going to buy Bioshock in October or Resistance 2, LBP, or maybe motorstorm 2?

Why the hell did you think they delayed GTA4? Cause halo was around that time and many people, namely 360 owners, wouldn't have bought the game. Release dates are everything in the gaming world, one bad release date could ruin a sales.

And sales do matter Seeker. It determines how good a game is.

Did you read anything I said or just reply with whatever you wanted to say?

GTA needed work. Thats why it was delayed.

Thats not the only reason, T2 and R* said Halo 3 was out and it would have had a major impact on sales.

I read but you don't get the point that if released on a bad date can cause sales to plummet and not make it as great. Selling wise. Its like Releasing GTA4 right next to MGS4, what game would you buy more? I bet you its MGS4. And that would also have a fatal blow to the sales GTA4 got and not make it beat Halo 3 numbers. Its another reason why UT3 didn't sell that great for the PS3 as everyone thought it would, cause there was other games out there, namely Uncharted .

      Fatal Error | May 28, 2008
It obviously isn't going to be as successful as it was on the 360, because it's coming out later and many potential buyers already have the game or have at least already played it. That much is obvious, so why are you even bothering mentioning it?

People thumbed him down because it's a completely irrelevant statement to make. An October release shouldn't have anything to do with the overall quality of the game. A lot of people probably won't bother right away with the game, but that doesn't mean they won't buy it at a later date.

Red HAS seen this article, and now I'm about just as happy as LPF here is. I wanted the game when it was on 360, so this is great, especially since 2K themselves confirmed it.

I will definitely pick it up beside R2 and KZ2.

im going to buy this game and i know a bunch of other people who only have ps3 and use mac computers(like me) will also get it. so saying "everyone who wants it has it" isnt true. and niether is "nobody will buy this."
