$2.000 PS3 Is 2X Faster Than Normal PS3

ITANI | October 29, 2007 | Other | Playstation 3
Yes, you read that right. A yellow Playstation 3 is currently up for grabs on Ebay for $2000. What's so special about it? No it isn't it's colour but the fact that it's got double the speed a normal Playstation 3 has. This console also comes with a massive 200GB 7200RPM hard drive to fulfill your gaming and download needs.

The auction right now has a Buy It Now price of $1.980.
An auction is currently up on eBay for a Sony PS3 console which is being sold to users as being two times faster than the original PS3 console.

LOL 200GB 7200RPM != worth $2000. You can get 500GB's for roughly $120-140 and that yellow is blindingly ugly.

That's pretty cool, but I'd never pay that much.

Hard drive speed would mean *bleep* all in a PS3... Hense the 5400RPM HDD Sony installed.

Actually the drive speed does make a difference in anything having to load off of it. It sucks they made it based off the 80GB model though, for $2000 they better be modding 60GB models.

Faster drive speed = faster data transfer rates

On top of that include a larger drive cache and you'll see some improvements as well.

If drive speed meant nothing at all then you would see sony with 4200RPM drives installed running on ATA/33

Interface transfer speed means crap if you can't get the data off the drive at a fast enough rate.

Thats a waste of money because:

    - 200gb is way too much
    - It looks ugly
    - It being faster isn't worth $2000

I have a 160GB I put in myself. Is that too much too? It confuses me seeing just how many people continue to say, "THATS TOO BIG..WHO NEEDS A xxxGB hard drive?..WHY SO MUCH?" A hard drive stores files. The PS3 is a multimedia machine. Where is the misconception? Some people use it for more than game saves. Is this really so hard to understand?

It might not be worth $2000 for what it has, but I bet it would be woth having it just to be able to say "I have a 200GB, 7200RPM yellow PS3!".

I think you could probably find a company making new shells for cheaper and do the mod yourself. Personally I'd want the Cell and the RSX overclocked, if available a higher speed blu-ray drive and probably at least a 1TB HDD dropped in there or a 750GB.

The value isn't there and by no means is it double the speed of a normal PS3 from just faster drive access.

I just read the auction description and I didn't see anything different with it. The person selling it says 80gb hard drive, and just described what a normal ps3 is.

Hmmmmmm, seems kind of fishy to me, I think it is a normal ps3 with a yellow color.

I dont get gamegrep.com, they are always posting false information.

First it was UT3 will be released this year on ps3, and now this, a normal ps3 that they say is worth $2000.

    Okay........

GameGrep isn't always to blame. If it's news, the membership posts it. We are by no means a place for guaranteed and/or highly probable factual information; if that were so, then everything would be on Neoseeker. However, since GameGrep is a social news site, anything recent that's worthy of discussion may be posted so long as a source to the article is provided. The false information is usually a result of an error with the source article, not the article on GameGrep itself.

yeah but still, they shouldnt be posting flase information, it doesn't look good for gamegrep at all.

Oh well, I checked the main source, the auction, and it said nothing different about the system.

The colour sucks too much and I won't purchase another PS3 just because it's double the speed. I will only purchase another PS3 if there's some sort of ground shaking feature.

I'm guessing the title is supposed to have a comma after the 2 instead of a decimal point.

      Chaos Swordsman | October 30, 2007
Not necessarily. Different parts of the world format numbers differently. In the US, the comma is used, thus making it $2000. In other parts of the world, a decimal point is used, thus making it $2.000.

So then I'm guessing they use the comma for a decimal point then?

    LOL

I'll just ride down to Dexter's Labratory and get myself a 2000GB PS3 now. This is the funniest crap ever. A piss-yellow PS3 for $2000 and it's actually selling. I need to learn how to mod them.

Would "twice the speed" even matter unless the developers took advantage of it?

    iLLmatic | October 30, 2007
Its not even faster than a retail PS3. I don't know why that is even being touted. When you talk about the speed of a computer, you're talking about the processor. This yellow PS3 has a hard drive with a higher RPM and thats it. This does not make the PS3 faster, per se, the hard drive just reads data faster.

Whats the point. This isn't PC where specs go up all the time. PS3's don't change...just get smaller cooler running components. This is purely for bragging rights.

and while there at it why not 10,000rpm harddrive.

Sure I'll just email it too you

Why did they have to make it a yellow PS3? Of all the colours they could have used

Whats the point of this anyway. I mean first off Yellow is kinda not appealing. Second who cares if it has 200GB and a faster RPM, is that really worth your $2000 in which you can buy a 360 and PS3 and have another money left for games on each system.

Besides the fact you can actually mod a PS3 to have a faster RPM and 200GB for $300 maybe a little less. It a rip off. But i must say its not as much as a $40,000 PS3 on ebay when the PS3 first came out i was like WTF

2X faster would always be nice but to be honest i probably wouldn't notice it...

and like a yellow PS3 would be pretty cool... but that bright? it's almost illuminous!

I really wouldn't care about having the speed 2X faster if the color of the PS3 is ugly. I feel sorry for the people who will actually pay the final bid for that. 0_0
