Vanillaware working on new 2D action RPG for Wii

Wolfwood | September 05, 2007 | Other | Wii
The folks behind Odin Sphere and GrimGrimoire for the PS2 now have their sights set the Wii, as Famitsu reveals that Vanillaware is developing Oboro Muramasa Youtouden for the Nintendo console. In addition to utilizing very stylized 2D presentation like Odin Sphere, Oboro Muramasa Youtouden is also set to take advantage of the Wii's motion sensing controls. As you will see, the game echews European-styled fantasy for a more feudal Japanese theme this time around.

I'm intrigued. 2D ARPGs don't come often, almost never on consoles. I'm quite fond of the genre, as well. It will use the Wii remote for sword fighting, which is nice. I'm keeping an eye on this one, and if turns out to be good (and reasonably priced), then I may pick it up. I want to see more, however. Two scans aren't going to make me buy a game.

I really love the art style.

Odin Sphere looked very cool graphically, but it was hurt by load times and relatively pendantic level progression. It was at times a beat 'em up, but also an RPG with its alchemy system. Here's hoping the flow is better with this title, because Vanillaware's on a roll!
