Moms unimpressed by Wii Fit: Nintendo "don't know what girls like."

shuandrew | May 27, 2008 | News | Wii
Nintendo has made no secret about the fact that it is squaring a lot of its publicity for Wii Fit at the female market, with Moms making up a large chunk of their target audience. But if one study is any reflection of society at large, the majority of mothers aren't keen on what Wii Fit has to offer.
The way Nintendo's advertising for Wii Fit has been, it's clear that the firm has been, in the main, focusing its attention on luring women to the charms of its new title.

To see if they'd succeeded, Florida's Orange County Register invited a group of Mom-bloggers to their offices and gave them some playtime with Wii Fit. While a few of them enjoyed the experience, the majority came away feeling disappointed.

Referring to Wii Fit's developers, Jenny Angelici stated that Nintendo "don't know what girls want. They don't know what girls like."

girls *bleep*ing love the wii, because hardly any of the games are complicated, and most are fun for about as long as most guys can get their girl to play

Number A, it's bull to lump all females into one group and say they all "don't like" what the Wii has to offer.

Number B, WiiFit deserves most of its criticism, but this is coming from the uninformed.

I think people need to understand that Wiifit isn't even meant to actually get you in shape. For goodness sakes. It'a GAME. GAME=FITNESS. Nononononono

I find this whole thing quite funny honestly. If people are going to constantly criticize the Wii Fit then why bother buying it if you know most people think it's a hunk of crap. Go get fit another way.

The industry usually doesn't even try to appeal to female gamers, and when they do, they make such a horrible attempt at assuming what women want. I never thought this game was targeting women, honestly; I just guessed it was another one of the Wii's family friendly games that would get kids off their asses (and hopefully, off of Xbox LIVE).

If the developers really wanted to appeal to women gamers, maybe they should see us in a similar light to their male demographic. We also want eye candy, a good story, interesting scenarios, comprehensible gameplay -- you know, an engaging piece of work. They shouldn't just come up with half-assed fluff and try to pawn it off on us while thinking we'd fall for it. Assassin's Creed took it in the right direction with an aesthetically pleasing hero without too many hyper-masculine undertones.

Wii Fit? No, it's just another 'tendo gimmick that will entertain you for week at most. If anything, it's supposed to appeal to families as an activity they can do together. This article (writer) is just horribly misinformed.

Who came up with the notion that all women/girls love the Wii anyway?

Apparently it's the in thing to bash a game for not being a simulator when it never claimed to act as one, on top of that it's apparently now in to be horribly uninformed and make gender demographic claims that are horribly inaccurate.

There's probably a reason most people don't read things on blogspot, and it's pretty simple, the people often tend to be absolute morons looking for a soapbox to stand on for their 5 minutes of fame.

That girl in the picture is playing the ski-jump one? It's just soo lame that you wave at people when you do the jump after.

I mean, well how stupid is that? If girls do not like the Wii fit, then why make a whole article on it? Pointless.

I think Nintendo's just done a horrible job with the name. Just because it has the word "fit" in the title, everybody generally believes that WiiFit is the definitive piece of equipment that will help them get in shape. Whereas it seems that Nintendo was primarily targeting those lazy ass kids who can't drag their ass off the chair and play video games 24/7. Nintendo disguised the whole exercise concept for them through the use of mini-games and the like. A truly noble cause Nintendo, but it just blew up in their faces.
