No 90 Minute Cutscene For MGS, 4.6GB Install though

Linkin Park Fan | May 23, 2008 | News | Playstation 3
The rumor spread fast through out the internet like wildfire. But gamepro editor who has beaten the game twice said that this rumor is not true. He said that the game does have a lot of cinematic, but none of them come close to 90 minutes.

But on the downside, the game will have a mandatory 4.6GB install.
From CVG today comes a pretty wild rumor about Metal Gear Solid 4: the penultimate title in the Solid Snake series will feature rather lengthy cutscenes.

How lengthy? Try 90 minutes. And that's not 90-minutes in total, that's a 90-minute cutscene.

Trouble is, it's not entirely accurate. Will MSG4 have lengthy cutscenes, like the 45-minute one in MGS2? Yes, says GamePro's own Sid Shuman, but nowhere near 90 minutes.

"I've beat the game twice, and am the author of the forthcoming [GamePro] review," Shuman said. "Ninety-minute-long cinemas in MGS4 sounds like an exaggeration. Like the other MGS games, MGS4 definitely has a cinematic quality. And yes, some of the cut-scenes in the game are elaborate and occasionally lengthy. But not a one, to my recollection, even approaches 90 minutes.

"I think it's safe to say that the '90 minutes cinemas' claim is a pretty big exaggeration," he told GamePro News.

Unknown at this time is whether or not the cutscenes, 90-minutes or otherwise, are skippable. UPDATE@1:15 EST: Cut scenes are skippable.

That said, there's one more rumor out there today that looks to have some weight to it. A purported pic of a MGS4 display case revealed that the game could come with an oft-maligned PS3 mandatory install. In this case, it appears to be about 4.6GB.

90 minutes was a bit much, I honestly would get a little annoyed with the cutscenes if they were that long.

As long as the install doesn't take 4 hours to download, I don't care.

This is one of the few games I can understand to have a install, especially with Kojima pushing Blu ray to the limit.

i don't see why install size is such a big deal people it is the 21st century hard drives are cheap if you don't have enough space by a new internal or an external drive. not that big of a deal i have seen 1 TB external for $250 (usd) or less.

I dont mind, my PS3 has plenty of space, though gotta feel bad for guys who bough DMC4, Lost Planet, GTA4 and then MGS4 when it comes out, thats 20-ish gb right there.

I don't think the space is the problem, it's the time. I mean, you get the game, pop it in, you're excited--you want to get into the action, but you have to wait for it to install.

You have a real good point right there. The install would be killer.

Not everyone is willing to risk their precious PS3 on putting in a custom HDD....And installs won't work on external HDDs....(this bit is mostly directed at Suprem Kite)...

4.6GB is a bit much, but yeah, like it was said before, it makes more sense on this game, than on DMC4 or the crappier games out there >_>

I knew 90 minute cutscenes had to be wrong. Also, like I said before, 4.6GB installation is miniscule for a 50GB game.

      Cdemon | May 24, 2008
Not when that 50gb game's files are compressed very little.

        Red 9 | May 24, 2008
Yeah, but do you really think they would put massive uncompressed files on the mandatory install? You wouldn't be able to put much into it if each file was massive. And it would make the download take ages. And I doubt that's what Konami's aiming to do.

The install isn't a download, Red. It installs from the game disc when you first boot the game.

Cdemon, you've made countless comments in the past about the speed of the Blu-Ray drive compared to the DVD drive of the 360. What don't you understand now about why installation files are necessary?

    Final Blade | May 24, 2008
I like to point out that the installs aren't really problems. I mean if you play a game like DMC4 or Lost planet which takes space, and beaten it, you can ALWAYS delete the install on the HDD and then you have free space. Your just blowing the situation out of proportion. I mean honestly unless its a game with massive replay value or an RPG you shouldn't really keep the install after beating the game anyway.

      Xenctuary | May 24, 2008
But who wants to sit around for another half hour waiting for the game to reinstall? All installs should be optional and there's really no excuse.

        Final Blade | May 24, 2008
Are you telling me your going to replay DMC4 and Lost Planet after beating it the first few times??

Cause some people don't. Whether it should be optional isn't the point in my post. And sadly I don't see them ever making an optional install. And since thats the case atm, delete your old ones. Big deal you have to re-install it the next time if you delete it, its not like your going to be impatient like the first time you got the game.

Why do you keep going on with this argument? You act like its uncommon to play through the same game multiple times, as if there is something wrong with playing an old game.

No my problem is people downplaying DMC4 and Lost planet. Now if I recall correctly many stated Im not going to play DMC4 or LP again after the initial play through, that's my point. If people are honestly complaining about the space then delete the old files, free up the space for the next install game your eager to play.

Im just showing the ridiculousness of their complaining when there is easy methods to solve the problem.
It has nothing to do with not playing the game over. I mean I can't see people playing DMC4 and LP when the PS3 most biggest exclusive this year, MGS4, is about to be released.

Without the installation, the game would not run properly or efficiently. Everyone keeps complaining about these files, but they aren't mandatory so that Sony can say, "We're better than 360 because we make you use up space on your hard drive." The installations are there for a reason, period. If you seriously can't take 20 minutes for a one time thing, then you are more of the problem than the actual installation process.

I guess the only question now is how much of a pain will theis 4.6 GB installation be?

While it is a lot, I'd say, not much of a pain.

    Mnmfan | May 24, 2008
It'll be around 18 or 19 minutes to install. DMC4 took 22 minutes to install and that had over 5GB so 4.6GB will be less then 20 minutes.

So that's 20 minutes to install the game and then 89 minutes to watch the first cutscene. You'll be playing the game 2 hours after inserting it into your PS3. Yay.
