Call of Duty 5 officially announced for Fall 2008 release

Chaos | May 20, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 2
Before it was just a rumor, but now Activision confirmed it: Call of Duty 5 will be coming out in Fall of this year. I am somewhat excited about this. I love Call of Duty, but Infinity Ward won't be making this one... Treyarch will.
Hot on the tail of news that Grand Theft Auto 4 just became the bestselling entertainment launch of all time, ever, beating out Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, competing publisher Activision has stepped up and announced that they’ll be launching Call of Duty 5 in fall of this year.

Aaand no one heard them because they were too busy killing Albanian loan sharks and chasing hookers through Liberty City. But, once people get bored of GTA4 (read: never), I’m sure they’ll be itching for some good old fashioned FPS action. And those who don’t own an XBOX or a PS3 won’t be left hanging because it’ll be coming out for PC, Wii, PS2 and DS also. (But COD3 pretty much sucked for the Wii, so I don’t know if that’s really good news).

Activision’s CEO has also said that it’ll be set in a “new military theatre.” A more urban setting reminiscent of a large northeastern metropolis, perhaps?

Depends on what century this will take place in.

"Call Of Duty 5: Future Warfare"

Or, as the primary image humorously suggests, "Call of Duty 5: Moderener Warfare".

        Yeah, "Moderner Warfare" is classic.
Good thing these games keep coming out on the PC. But why DS again? Oh, well. We may never know. I seriously don't think the DS does this game justice.

I thought IW made CoD2? If CoD3 is anything to go on this will be poor.

Yeah, Infinity Ward did make CoD2.

Oh, my bad. I didn't know IW made CoD2. I thought Treyarch made all first three games.

IW made Call of Duty 1,2
Gray Matter made Call of Duty: United Offensive
Treyarch made Call of Duty 3
IW made Call of Duty 4
Treyarch is making Call of Duty 5
IW is making Call of Duty 6 right now
Treyarch for the time being will develop future odd titles
IW for the time being will develop future even titles.

It would have helped to run this through a quick reference check before assuming things. COD and COD2 stomped the life out of COD3 and it's an insult to see them associated to that failure.

Actually, Infinity Ward said that after CoD5, that was the last CoD game that will be made by someone other than them.

Activision in their properties conference with Vivendi noted that they would be alternating in the future to preserve the integrity of the franchise. Basically instead of running it into the ground with one team they'd allow a stronger development cycle alteration.

IW does have some say in what goes on, but seeing as chances are the property and money come from Activision, I'd think they probably have more pull.

I actually think it would be a good idea to go back to WWII... But what about WWIII? They need a WWIII!!!

This sucks, not a fan of Treyarch's CoD3. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, though.

Well as long as it's as good as COD 4 has been, I don't care who makes it.

I like that it will be on most of the platforms, but lets face it, Treyarch sucks compared to Infinity Ward. I think even when this comes out, people will still be poppin in COD4.

I liked Call of Duty 2: Big Red One which was one of the Treyarch games so I'm optimistic. Though they have a lot to live up to, COD4 has set the benchmark incredibly high. However why they are still developing the game for PS2 is totally beyond me.

Would rather have IW make it as COD3 on Wii wasn't the best game ever. Still it will be a good game, and i cant wait for it.
