PS3 Trophies due in in June?

Aparently us PS3 gamers are set to have a trophy system due in in June possibly. If they do though they are going to come with firmware version 2.4. But they will be different to the 3D ones we will be seeing in Home later this year. There said to be used to recognise gaming skills and loyalty which go well beyond a score.

New rumours about PlayStation 3 Achievements are flying around, with one site speculating that a trophy system will launch as early as next month.

According to this PSU report, 2D trophies located on the PS3's XMB may launch this June with firmware version 2.4 (which should also introduce in-game XMB access). These trophies are reportedly different to the 3D ones set to feature in Home later this year.

Another report over on Kotaku substantiates the claim somewhat. It points to a Sony fact sheet about upcoming PSN title PixelJunk Eden, which shows that one of the game's "key features" will be "Trophy Support", although it's unclear exactly what this is.

We know PS3 Achievements are coming in various guises, although we're not sure exactly what form they'll take. Last year PlayStation Network director of operations Eric Lempel told Next-Gen that, "in addition to Home," Sony had "some very exciting programs planned to recognize our consumers gaming skills and loyalty in new ways that go well beyond a single score."

Trophies sound perfectly reasonable - and overdue - to us.

Personally I'd prefer to have just one set of trophies rather than two, unless they interact somehow

They probably will interact, Sony wouldn't be THAT stupid in making variations of achievements.

  I heard (ages ago) that the June(ish) update would include in-game MESSAGING, not In-Game XMB. Mind you, in-game XMB would include messaging, but wy didn't they say that hmmmm?
  
  Besides, you'd think something as 'big' as in-game XMB would be save for a major (X.0) update.....Which would probably come out this fall....
