New Burnout, Skate and Need for Speed coming next year says EA

President of Electonic Arts Frank Gibeau in a recent presentation with some industry anylysts revealed a number of EA titles coming out in 2009. Among them is a new Burnout, Skate 2 and a new Need for Speed game. He also talked about sequels to Mass Effect saying "it will be a franchise for EA for a very long time"
In a presentation to industry analysts today, EA Games president Frank Gibeau revealed that the two series would "see extension" in the publisher's fiscal year 2009, which runs from this April through March of 2009. Gibeau didn't specify whether the extensions would come in the form of proper sequels, side products (such as Burnout Legends and Burnout Dominator), or some other form.

In contrast to Burnout, Skate is a relatively new property. The series debuted last September as part of EA's attempt to break Activision's hold on the skateboarding genre with longtime champ Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.

Another new franchise EA is prepping a sequel for is Mass Effect, which was announced for the PC today. From the very first time now EA-owned developer BioWare showed it off in 2005, the role-playing game franchise was touted as a trilogy. Gibeau's presentation today suggested it may not end there. He told analysts that it "will be a franchise for [EA] for a very long time." He also said that going forward, EA will take over publishing duties on the Mass Effect franchise from Microsoft Game Studios, which handled the game's initial release on the Xbox 360.

I hope they revert back to the NFS style they had with Most Wanted, I never really liked Pro Street too much. Hopefully they don't totally kill Mass Effect too, I don't wanna see a kick ass game get milked badly.

Meh, NFS and Burnout are getting boring now, they just regurgitate the same design over and over and over. It's getting realy gay.

Actually Burnout Paradise couldn't be more different than every other previous Burnout. Its just that if they start to make new ones every year, then it would get monotonous. Paradise is actually very ambitious, the way they approached its design from the beginning, and with all the free updates throughout this year, it has only gotten better.

I agree with Incidnia. EA really need to stop churning out the same old stuff. They make some great games, but there tends to be about 5 crappy sequels between each decent game before they realise they need to stop milking the same format and try and do something innovative.

You do know, and You too Incidnia, that EA doesn't actually make Burnout Paradise right? They publish it, but has no hand in the makings of it, this is all Criterion.

And Paradise is beyond great. And with Motorcycles and night and day mod, CS, and more islands to explore, its being a outstanding game.

I can't see why they shouldn't make another Burnout, they're all fun.

Skate is not 'the same old stuff'. I for one can't wait. Skate was sublime, and I expect the second one to only be greater.

Skate 2 will be a nice introduction, they're talking a 2 year or even longer dev plan for a sequel, they took their time with the original and did quite well with the product, seeing as they really don't have much competition with Tony Hawk they're not in a position to blast out a new title yearly.

I hope they do something with NFS, I really do, Most Wanted as great because it brought back the Hot Pursuit model and honestly that was a great thing to see again. Pro Street failed for me, Carbon was a game that I enjoyed in the moment but lost interest in it over time (although it was nice using my Driving Force Pro on it) I'd love to see them take some time to look at the series and just start over with the points that worked and drop all the other garbage.

OH MY GOD!!!! NO! NO!! NO!!! Not a new Need For Speed game! Why the hell can't you let the good old NFS games rest in peace without being subjected to milking?
Get this into your thick skulls, EA people! "Carbon sucked, but was okay, and ProStreet sucked worse than an elephant's butt! Now give us a good NFS game, or GTFO!"
