Konami hints at a possible sequel to Metal Gear Solid 4.

Gothic Girl | May 14, 2008 | News | Playstation 3
So we all know that Metal Gear Solid 4 was going to be the last game in the MGS series, and that it would be the last Metal Gear game Hideo Kojima would be directly involved with. But has Kojima been fooling us this entire time? The recent Konami press conference hinted that there might be a sequel and that Kojima might be a part of it ...
Last year, Konami spent an insane amount of money on the Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Party. The swish event was at the Ritz Carlton in Tokyo Midtown. Throughout the event, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima kept mentioning that the fourth entry was the last game in the series. That this was it! But as Konami CEO Fumiaki Tanaka kept saying that he hoped Kojima would make more Metal Gear and others kept saying they hoped there would be more Metal Gear, Kojima was overheard at the end of the night saying that there would be more! Granted, how involved he would be in the future games is up in the air. So it wasn't exactly a surprise when a sequel was vaguely hinted at the end the press conference...

quote press conference
The screen goes black and the voice actor who does Ocelot comes and saying the event is over, but something's in place for the launches in NYC, Akihabara and LA. And then asks something like, 'what about the sequel?'.

But is it a Metal Gear Solid sequel? Dunno, it was way too vague. But, really, Konami (and Kojima) would be silly not to eventually do MGS5 with Metal Gear being its second biggest IP after Winning Eleven and a huge exclusive for Sony. Sure, this is pie-in-the-sky talk, but let's just hope Kojima gets the chance to branch out and do something different in the interim.

There might not be another Metal Gear Solid but I'm wholely confident that there will be more Metal Gear games.

Well seeing as MGS2 and 3 were supposed to be the last MGS games this is entirely possible.

Or um, maybe Ocelot was just joking and people are reaching for anything they can grab?

Once again, it looks like Kojima isn't listening to himself >_>

Meh, they should wait until AFTER MGS4 comes out....After a ton of people buy it, thinking it is the last MGS game, or something....

I doubt it'd be MGS5, but Kojima said 4 was only the last of the Solid series, so it's not outta the question that there may be other Kojima games.

Maybe, Kojima's been back and forth with his reaction to the outcome of MGS4, I think it may be possible...maybe.

Sorry, MGS without Kojima wouldn't be MGS.

I agree with iLL and Donnelly.

Just drop it Kojima! Stop saying this is the last one only to turn around and create another. If MGS4 leaves room for a sequel I'll murder someone.

If MGS4 did leave things open to a sequel, I highly doubt you'd be angry. I mean, come on, it's MGS.

No I would be angry, if there is one thing I hate its being lied to. I am not a MGS fanboy, in fact I only recently got interested in MGS4, if Kojima starts milking the franchise I promise you someone would get hurt

Surely the fact a class series is being continued would soften the blow.

Kojima's been creating some of the best games ever since Metal Gear Solid on the PSone and if they were to continue that I would be ecstatic.

Ditto. If MGS4 is as fantastic as the other MGS games (and judging by previews, it will be), then I'd be thrilled with another MGS game ... especially one made by Kojima himself. I wouldn't mind if he had lied to us - Heck, gaming companies are always lying to gamers, or gettig their info wrong, or changing their minds about things.

(Squeenix are one of the worst offenders when it comes to outright lies. They promised us AC in 2004 - didn't happen. They said that FFVII wouldn't be remade - now they're thinking about it.).

        It's hardly anything new.
