Guitar Hero 4 to Feature Custom Soundtracks?

tallteen86 | May 13, 2008 | News | Playstation 2 Playstation 3
Well, this sounds interesting.

It appears the next 'true sequel' (read: not Guitar Hero: Aerosmith) of the Guitar Hero franchise will feature custom soundtracks. So, you and your band will be able to upload custom instrumental tracks that you created. Pretty rad, neh?

It isn't surprising that the vocal aspect would be excluded, since (as the article states) it would be hard to do voice (to text) recognition (even modern software is a bit iffy, especially considering different people have different accents). Mind you, they could have ignored that issue, and not bothered to translate voice into text (though that would require the person doing the vocals to listen to the track at least once, before singing it). That, and the potential legal ramifications of including original voice work, pretty much excluded voice tracks from being included.

Still, I wouldn't be surprised if people accuse others of plagiarism, since likely a lot of people will release clones of others work.....Imagine all the all the 'cover band' versions of popular songs, that would flood the list? I imagine there would have to bee some screening process, or something.

I wonder if Rockband ver. 2.0 will do something similar?
Activision has revealed that the next true sequel in the Guitar Hero franchise will introduce new instruments. A preview of Guitar Hero 4 in the latest issue of GameInformer has now shed some light on that and revealed that GH4 will introduce drums, bass, and vocals.

The preview also reveals a new gameplay element. Apparently, Guitar Hero 4 will feature custom made tracks. Players will be able to create tracks, name them, create cover art, and upload it all online for others to enjoy. Due to legal issues and hard drive space — and maybe even word recognition? — the user-created tracks will be instrumentals only.

Personally, I hope Rock Band 2 does this as well. By the time I have the cash to get Rock Band, RB2 might be out, and if that is the case, I might as well get RB2 >_>

If I can play Guitar Hero 4 to Nine Inch Nails' 1995 masterwork "Eraser" then import and play along to Korn's "Here to Stay", then I will actually consider buying a Guitar Hero game for the first time in forever. What I thought was always missing was track selection because Guitar Hero has always been a family-centered game (and the tracks they select suck).

Well *bleep* the family! I want to rock out to profane metal music.

Well then learn to play a real guitar!

Geez, some people think of only video games when it comes to what you're able to do.

Just because people want to play a game about guitar doesn't mean they don't play the guitar in everyday life...

I think you missed the entire point of playing Guitar Hero in the first place. If I wanted I could learn the real guitar, but Guitar Hero is just a rhythm game to let you enjoy your favorite music tracks so you can channel your energy into something fun to do while listening to the music.

Truly speaking, are they gonna make another one after this? They can't really do too much to it except have better graphics and more default songs... the Custom-a-rocker and Studio Mode is all you'll ever need
