GameTrailers are 360 fanboys?

tekmosis | May 12, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 3
A lot of us are aware that GameTrailers does a lot of "360 vs PS3" comparisons. I can't think of a single one of these where they have elected the PS3 as the better version. Well, now you may want to question that, especially after the controversy surrounding Gamespot.

In a recent 360 vs PS3 comparison, this time the subject being GRID, the latest upcoming racing game by Codemasters. In the review they compare the PS3 against...wait, here it comes....the PS3! and guess who lost? The PS3, and who won? The 360...wait, I mean, the PS3. I'm confused, you compare the PS3 version vs the PS3 version but claim one of them is the 360 and the winner is the 360 but it's really the PS3!? that's a mouthful. Ohoho, someone's boss isn't too happy with them right now.

In an interview by Joystiq with the Editor in Chief; GameTrailers chalks it up to a "mistake"
quote
It was a mistake in our post-production process. After we captured the footage from both versions, some of the footage of the PlayStation 3 version of the game was incorrectly placed in the bin for the Xbox 360 footage. Our video editor on this particular project is not a games person and completely overlooked the fact that he had the wrong footage in the wrong place. We normally have multiple checks from games editorial on every segment that is published, but there was some confusion on who did/did not look at it before it was sent out for compression. Thus, the mistake.

Hey, mistakes happen, but, you gotta question the validity of things these days, ya know.

I have a few snide remarks to Joystiqs interview and how the EIC answered, so, excuse me while I put my fanboy cape and mask on 8)~

Meaning, this time wasn't normal? so then how can we trust any of the previous comparisons?

This is the first piece of media we've had to pull down due to something like this.
He meant to say "first time we were caught" right? ;P

It is definitely an issue that's unique to our business because it's difficult to find video editors that are as embedded into video games as much as the GameTrailers editorial staff.
orly, I find that extremely hard to believe. Keep feeding me the BS. If he just said it was a mistake that'd be fine but I found it very hard to choke down what else he said after that.

Well it's safe to say that any credibility they ever had just went down the shitter. This should go the same for any other video comparison, really...this whole "But this one has more 'warm colors' and the other has more 'vibrant colors'" bullshit is getting on my nerves.

I never trust those comparison anyway, the differences are often so small that you to take there word for it.

Still this is very unprofessional of them

Did you read or watch the video?

So what your saying is the PS3 version is better, right?

I mean if you saw the video, they clearly shown two videos of the PS3 version, just one is worse quality, only to say the 360 is better?

GT are tools, and they've been caught red handed.

I'm sad to say this, but none of you are looking at this objectively. Try looking at the other gaming news sites. What this link doesn't tell you is that the video editor knows almost nothing about games really, and couldn't tell the difference. Give the man a break. (Look at the JoyStiq alternate source, first paragraph.)

And for the checks, all major news institutions have problems. Most papers have a "Corrections" column in their paper every day. But you all get so hyped up when it is a video from a gaming site. Why? That is my question to you.

This was already discussed in another article. Should really tell you something, either way. If someone (who is completely unbiased towards video games) couldn't tell them apart AND if so-called professionals couldn't either, why would anybody listen to any more video comparisons?

Then why did the video editor edit the quality of one of the clips?

Even if he did just make a mistake, the comparison would have been exactly the same.

It doesn't even matter if he doesn't know about games, he still clearly edited down one of the videos.

You know what? The best way to avoid 'fanboyism' in comparison videos, is to watch both of the videos side by side (like in the comparison videos), only make sure they are NOT labeled as 360 or PS3....This goes for reviewers on sites too, don't let them know which is which, and let them decide which is better, before telling them....

I agree, that's pretty much the only way to go. Put both side by side without labels and then let people know at the end once they've made their own judgement.

I think it was probably a honest mistake. Anyone doing like hundreds of comparison videos is bound to screw up once or twice. That is only human. It's pretty easy to mix up some Xbox footage file with a PS3 footage file, it's not that they look totally completely different or anything.

Furthermore I can't see them really getting any benefit from purposefully screwing up the videos. That doesn't make sense. It's not like Codemasters is going to slide them cash under the table to doctor the videos. That is just not reasonable.

Peoples have to stop thinking stuff like this could be some sort of conspiracy. That's pretty nonsense.

Actually its pretty easy to tell they're both the same if you saw the video. The supposed "360 version" video has Playstation Buttons which we know MS doesn't use.

This isn't the first time they've done this, and whats *bleep*ed up is they lowered the quality of one PS3 video. Its stupid, it almost questions all Video Comparisons from them, and everywhere else.

They probably did in fact compare the PS3 to the 360 version but when they made the video they just accidentally put the PS3 versions up.

So why are the 2 versions different to each other?
