EA developing rival to Wii Fit

Twisted | May 08, 2008 | News | Wii
Electronic Arts has announced that they are making a game to rival Wii Fit. It will also use the Wii Balance Board.
Electronic Arts has revealed that it is currently developing an exercise-title for the Nintendo Wii that makes use of the Balance Board and aims to rival Wii Fit.

The firm’s Peter Moore explained that he wanted to create a title that was more “western” in approach compared too Wii Fit; a title that will make players really sweat while working out. The key, however, making it fun:

I’ll call [Wii Fit] more eastern fitness, where it senses weight and balance, like Tai-Chi. It’s more about holistic fitness. I don’t think the board is going to take a pounding. We need to look more at western fitness in which I can actually be moving and start to sweat a little bit, and that’s what we’re working on right now.

It can’t feel like a workout The team has to figure out, how do I smile while I’m doing this? You play soccer for 90 minutes; if I say you’re going to run five miles you’re not gonna want to do that. But you run for five miles playing soccer and you’ve had a good time. The difference is you’re distracted.

Moore added that a mini-game-filled approach is what EA is going for. It’ll be very interesting to see what they come up with.

Oh good, another over the top lazy game. I would laugh if it fails to compete against Wii fit.

I don't think it would be that great. I bet Wii Fit is much better than this game will be.

I can't really see this being the kind of gaming market that will benefit from intense competition, or a market that's really going to be that profitable now that Nintendo put their hand in with Wii Fit.

Doubt it will do as good because Wii Fit is already out with good ratings and people saying it is good, so why buy a new game?

Wow, I really don't see anybody buying this over Wiifit for any reason. I am curious though as to what will be added into the game in order to try to top Wiifit.

I'm going to go ahead and guess that a soccer type game will be added.
