Suikoden may see release on PlayStation Store

chautemoc | May 08, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 Playstation
In Japan, Konami has been supporting the PlayStation store with a few downloadable PS1 games, like Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The RPG classic Suikoden looks like it will see its own release at some point, as the ESRB just re-rated the title for the PS3 and PSP. Interesting.
Second hand prices for Suikoden are sky high on eBay, maybe not as much as Suikoden II, but some time in the future gamers will get to search for the original 108 Stars of Destiny.

However the rating doesn’t indicate we’re going to see Suikoden anytime soon. Castlevania Chronicles was rated last year and it still hasn’t percolated as a digital download in any region.

I would really like to see more downloadable PS1 games in the US. I don't see why they wouldn't offer this, it's just more DLs, popularity, and money for them. For sure I would have DLed any Castlevania games myself.

I assume its mostly legalities..I know Nintendo has had to go through some red tape with the VC. Otherwise they'd just have pretty much every game on there now, right?

But yeah, I agree, having downloadable PS1 games would be awesome. Emulation is largely insufficient for the system (maybe this is part of the reason its taking awhile for Sony too, though?), and finding all the games now in stores is very tough, if not impossible. Ebay is largely useless of course, who wants to pay 50 or 100$+ for an old game?

I have been looking for a copy of Suikoden II for so long. But he only ones I can find are ridiculously expensive. If this comes out at least I'll have the original to keep me busy.

I personally only liked the 1st one.For some reason I thought the 2nd one was utter crap. But that's probably because I liked the 1st one so much that the 2nd one was a disappointment.

Suikoden II was the best game in the series and quite possibly the greatest RPG of all time! To say that it is utter crap is beyond personal opinion, it's heresy to gaming.

There is no such thing as "beyond personal opinion".The only reason to say that is because you can't handle the fact that some doesn't praise something you like. There is no such thing as a bad opinion because it is just that and opinion. If I think the game sucks then it's my personal preference.Just look at how many people HATED FF X-2.I personally absolutely loved it.I would never say that their opinions are beyond personal opinion. They have as much right to hate the game as I have to love the game.

His point is probably that roughly 60% of FF fans loved FFX, but 99% of Suikoden fans consider Suikoden II to be the best in the series. Myself included. Suikoden 1 was still a great game though.

          And this is great news

That's 100% true. Suikoden II, Wild ARMS II, and Star Ocean II were be best games in the series, and quite honestly both Suikoden and SOII belong in the top RPGs of all time category.
