GTA IV not doing so well on PS3?

According to Microsoft, the 360 version of GTA IV is doing twice as well as the PS3 version. Sony questions the claims, saying they "don't line up" with their findings, though they declined on specifics until hard data is compiled.
"What we've heard anecdotally from our retail partners is that the Xbox 360 version of the game is outselling the PS3 version by a margin of two-to-one," said Aaron Greenberg, director of product management for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live during an interview Thursday.

"That mirrors what we saw with pre-orders, but it continues to hold true at retail, at least for the first couple of days. It's a great sign."

In day-one sales in the UK, the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV outsold the PS3 version: 335,000 versus 274,000, respectively, according to Chart Track.

SCEA released a statement Thursday saying that GTA IV drove a boost in PS3 sales on the game's launch day, although the company has yet to release hard figures.

    OMG IT CAME FROM MICROSOFT SO IT'S NOT TRUE.

    Seriousy, though, I don't see how this isn't expected. X360 has more consoles out on the market and a much higher attach rate.

    I do know, though, that my local Gamestop sold out of PS3 versions before X360. This probably had something to do with a difference between the number of copies received, but I was told most of the people who turned out for the midnight release were there for the PS3 version.

      I'm gonna have to agree with Cdemon here (Whoah, the two of us agreeing?!).

      There's WAY more Xbox 360's out in the market. It would be STUPID to expect the PS3 version to outsell the 360 one.

    So, assuming Microsoft's claims are correct, 2:1 means the PS3 version isn't doing so well? No, Lair isn't doing so well. GTA IV is doing fine.

          No. "GTA IV not doing so well on PS3" is not a fact. Tbh, GTA 4 has gotten many units for the PS3 sold and just because it didn't surpass the 360 amount (which nobody should have thought) doesn't mean that the game is not doing anything for PS3, which is obviously a stretced out ridcolous comment from yourself.

      More people have 360s...so why wouldn't that version sell better? Easy math, probably somewhere about 3-1 ratio of owners...so uh duh!

      That explains ITANI's articles claiming the PS3 version would outsell the 360's 2:1 as well as the numerous articles claiming PS3 preorders outnumbered 360's 5:1.

          Pre-order stats determine nothing, if a game has hyped up rep, there will be mobs to get the game upon stores opening in the morning...many PS3 owners already have a 360 as well so that could explain it.

    I'm still trying to figure out why it says in the article that it's outselling 2 to 1 but they only offer this figure: "335,000 versus 274,000"......and then no other sales figures....that was only the first day, so there's not enough info in the article to back up their claims.

    LMAO at this, first off its too early to know which one is selling better, but i agree with iLLmatic here. GTA4 is still better than some of the PS3 games did at launch.

    It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the 360 was going to outsell the PS3 version because:

    - DLC
    - Most people own 360's
    - And no need to sacrfice 4GB for installation

    But I still believe the PS3's version has better graphics and lighting

    Another article designed to drive up Sony fanboys against Microsoft fanboys...

    I honestly don't give a damn, and that isn't because I don't own either system (not the Wii, either, I have yet to upgrade )

    Of course the 360 is always going to have that "population" advantage. Most people have them, so more people will buy games on it. If Son can catch up, it would be a different story, but as long as Microsoft has that advantage, every big game that hits both consoles will likely have this result.

        No correct, this article brought in the likes of Cdemon and LordMaChao who has been known to come in and bash people like me and others who own a PS3. For their own pleasure of course, as well as thumb my posts down.

        If you don't see the flame-wars starting by articles like these than you really need to to adjust your glasses correctly.

          @RCB Actually this game will end up selling more than SA only for the Sheer fact thats its out on both consoles.

          You know as well as I do that that isn't a deterrent. Thumbs are anonymous, and the trivial giving out of negative thumbs over differences of opinion makes thumbing useless generally. At least with them you know who is stabbing you, and can address them, rather than an anonymous negative thumb.

          While you make a good point, i would rather see less of them attacking blind fanboyism. Let them be blind and be fools. Or contact the mods and let them deal with it. You know the two GTA articles, one being which LMC was attacking Tiger of Wu along with Storm? Well that turned into a 100 comment flame fest for no reason.

          And the one with Storm and jmac? That was another BS one.

    I'm sure that has already been said before, but honestly, the 360 still has a numbers advantage over PS3 so of course it would do better. I mean GTA:SA sold more than GTA IV... most likely because there's just way more people with PS2s than a next-gen console (which are still pricey no matter how many price cuts they've seen).

    And I'm pretty certain GTA IV helped sell a few more 360s AND PS3s, so in the end R* wins.

    The 360 figure and PS3 figure are 1.2:1 ratio. And 360's to PS3's sold is like a 2:1. So that means the PS3 version was better off considering how many PS3's there are out there.

      It's not a 2:1 ratio. The two versions are fairly close together. Not exactly down to the single numbers, but 2:1 is an exaggeration. Two to one means there would need to be twice as many sales on 360, which there is not.
