Superman, Batman, and G.I. Joe had a sense of Justice. But NO! NOT Niko!

StarJet | May 01, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360 Misc
GTA IV! GTA IV!! GTA IV!!! Seems to be what every Dick, Tom and Harry is thinking about these days. A psychiatrist has also voiced his opinions about the game. And shall we say, he takes a rather different opinion?
"Why would adults want to play GTA IV?"
Huh? I thought people were against children playing GTA IV. Looks like I wasn't entirely correct. He says that he cannot fathom why adults would want to play games that "have totally flipped" the sense of justice.
Roberson feels it can have an affect on those besides children.
"Yes, they are for mature audiences but why would adults even be playing them. I have no idea."
Robertson says the games reward bad behavior, which is how you win the game.
"You get rewarded for going to the prostitute. You get more health benefits, and then if you steal her money, beat her up and steal her money, you get more."
The doctor feels it becomes more detrimental the more someone plays such games.
"Just going to church on Sundays isn't going to necessarily negate hours and hours of raping, pillaging, and murdering."
Robertson feels there's a big difference between rewarding for bad behavior and the days of Superman, Batman, and G.I. Joe.
"There was morality. There was a sense of justice. There was a sense of right and wrong in that. They have totally flipped that."

Who the *bleep* Cares. Its a freaking game, its not supposed to be realistic Justice. Its just another form of entertainment that takes you away from the real world.
Its not different to Books and Movies where theirs sense of justice isn't any better if not worse.

Meh...this has been going on for a long time now. You taking the role of the anti-hero and choosing your roles whether good or bad. Even though it's usually the lesser of two "evils"...THAT is about as realistic as it could get.

Oh yes lets all return to days of superheroes and beat up handbag snatchers and bank robbers. Variety is the spice of life!

You guys are whats wrong with gamers. Why can't you just admit that it is kind of wrong the stuff going on. And admit the fact that it could have a negative effect on things. It doesn't mean you don't have to stop playing games like this. Just means that you aren't so arrogant that you can see there are some issues.

Of course it can have a negative effect on things. Same thing with movies, novels, and shows. Doesn't mean we should bitch about it night and day and expect it all to shut down. Yeah, "bad things" happen in these games and it's fun cause you can strecth your imagination out. Yeah, things have happened because of these games but that rests on the shoulders of the parents, not game develepors.

Nothing is wrong with a gamer who wants all this over-reactive hype left in the gutter where it belongs. Games are for people to have fun. Hell, if people can have fun by doing things that they never can do in real life in a video game, then why shouldn't they?

I'm a law abiding citizen who pays his full taxes, works hard, and still can hardly support my family. Yet the man still adds more and more frickin' taxes. It seems like the harder I work to be legit, the harder life is. I enjoy escaping reality for a bit to a realm where I can take out my frustrations without regret.......

I see GTA as stress relief!! I love capping criminals and driving drunk with no repercussions....that's what gaming is all about, experiencing the unrealistic. Killing someone is unrealistic to me......to others it's not....but I promise that if you remove GTA from our world, crime will still take place.

It'll die down Doylie, and the rest of you guys. Give it time, the game just came out after all.

People LIKE doing what they can't do in real life. That is the WHOLE POINT of games, after all. Living the life you can't have (either because it is dangerous, unlikely/improbable, or just pure fantasy)....Doesn't mean people would do this stuff in real life.
