Konami blocking UK users from Metal Gear Online Beta?

Silver Mirror | April 26, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 Company
The Metal Gear Online Beta has only been up a day but already some major problems have already arisen and not all of them are glitches. It is believed by members of the official Sony forum that Konami are deliberately blocking AOL UK IP's in order to relieve pressure on the servers. Let's hope this isn't true
You know how the Metal Gear Solid Beta hasn’t exactly gone smoothly? The multiple delays combined with the horrible duplicate account process has put a bad taste in every ones mouth. That’s not even mentioning the short code problems that people have been experiencing.

The latest reports are that anybody who’s Internet Service Provider is AOL UK have been blocked from the beta. The cause or reason is unknown but members of the Official Sony Forums have voiced complaints about the beta not working and eventually coming to the conclusion that the only thing is common was their ISP. It appears that a few other guys have had problems with it.

Any AOL UK users that have attempted to get their stealth on, have been greeted with the following message..

‘(090B:00000001) - Servers are Idle, but not available to you’

So this means AOL users in UK can't play the MGO beta?
Why would Konami single out AOL? This doesn't make any sense.

It does if you read the article. Apparently AOL puts a strain on the servers.

Can you stop talking rubbish please?

Nowhere does it say in that article that AOL puts a strain on the servers, it does however say that the cause or reason is 'unknown'.

I've spent a lot of time looking into this because I'm desperate to play it, and one rumour I've heard is that we may be being blocked because AOL is America Online. And perhaps we have American IP addresses so Konami thinks we are Americans who didn't preorder, and are now trying to sneak on to the EU servers. It sucks really...

In other words basically means it puts a strain on the servers, and not allowing AOL, relieve pressure on them.

This isn't true, my friend is a UK AOL customer, and he has not had a single problem since launch.

    It's not ALL AOL customers

That's because you already downloaded it and you have to look in your download history to re-download it. Good one Tidus.
