So, videogamer.com have had an interview with Ed Boon (the main game creator/developer/leader type person) after he announced Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe. Some things come as a suprise (both pleasent and unpleasent) and some things we just saw coming.
The main points to note from this article are;
1. There will be no fatalities. There will be finishing moves, but we won't be ripping Batman's spine out or making Superman's head explode in this game.
2. Boon said he is aiming for 20 characters, 10 from each faction (all of them being icons). In Armageddon there were 60, making it a little manic to focus on anyone. In this game, he wants to focus more on making character's right instead of making lot's of them.
3. How can Superman (someone who is invulnerable) be harmed by MK characters? (explained in quote)
4. Even though DC don't want their beloved characters being torn apart, Boon is pushing for as much of the trademark MK gore as possible.
5. In the new kombat engine are different modes which switch seeminglessly while fighting, including free-fall and klose kombat.

In is a vastly reduced playable character roster ("Every single character is a known DC character, a known MK character. Because they're so iconic, we don't feel like we want to do the huge, massive roster. We just focus in on these core 20 characters"). In is a new combat system which sees switches in perspectives and controls. Take the Freefall Kombat, for example, which you can see in the game's debut trailer. Here two characters knock two lumps out of each other as they are falling from one level of the multi-tiered arenas to another. Then there's Klose Kombat, which involves another switch in perspective as the camera zooms up close and personal when you grab your opponent and drag them into a boxing mode. In is a tag team single-player mode that allows you to pick one character from the Mortal Kombat universe and one from the DC universe and see events unfold from two perspectives...
Imagine knocking Batman off a skyscraper - as you're both falling you get to fight in the air. You hit the ground and start fighting in the street. You pull Batman towards you and start brawling boxing style with a new perspective and new controls. Then Batman smacks you out of it and blasts you through the ground floor of the building to the other side. You'll be moving in and out of these different game modes and perspectives at a frantic pace. This is a new era for Mortal Kombat. This is Mortal Kombat like we've never seen it before. As Ed describes it: "It's crazy!"
How can anyone beat Superman in a beat-em-up? He's invulnerable!
So Ed, how? "A million people have asked me that! The reality is Mortal Kombat is based on magic. There's supernatural, there's sorcerers, there's the nether realm and all that stuff. Superman's two weaknesses are kryptonite and magic. So when you merge the two realms he kind of gets a little weaker, the other characters get stronger and it becomes more of an even balance."
News Story attached to:
20 characters is lame for a 'next-gen' game, and it's an insult to the MK games to not include the fatalities. Let it go DC, it's just a game, let Batman and Supes get their spines and hearts ripped out of them. ;D
And I think the 20 characters is so that Boon can meet his goal of 'a game a year'. TBH, I'd rather wait two years and have 40 characters. And yes, the no fatality thing is horrendous
Why not?
Batman can turn into a giant Bat, and eat his victim up or something, or maybe sucking out his blood. Animality!
Or Drop the Batmobile from the sky on the opponent, just like with the Arcade Game Machine.
And Superman has Laser eyes!
He Can boil his opponent up until he explodes!
Or Maybe do something with his Super human Strength, like Squashing the opponent or rip him apart!
Come on, so many possibilities for cool unique Fatalities, and they don't even try.
TBH, the no fatalities is a major blow, but I take a huge amount of pleasure in knowing that this gives Boon and the team time to make gameplay and kombat mechanics better (instead of focusing a load of their time on fatalities) thus when the actual MK8 comes out (I don't know whether this'll count as a proper MK game, so until it's confirmed I won't call it that
