GTA:IV Pre-Orders Running Out For Online Retailers

tidus04 | April 09, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360 Company
Have Take-Two underestimated the number of pre-orders that are being ordered for in the UK..? Well it is very much possible as many of the top online retailers (like Play, Gamestation and Game) have all claimed to have gone through there allocated number of copies and now are have gone as far as issuing warnings to potential pre-orderes that they may not be able to deliver the product for the day of release as they will not have the item in stock.

If you are planning to pre-order online, it is wise to do it fast!
We all know that Grand Theft Auto IV will be huge, but is Take-Two underestimating the number of acquired pre-orders? They may be in the UK, as major online retailers are starting to tell consumers something scary: they're running out of copies to pre-sell.

According to MCVUK, Play.com has already sold through its allocation of GTAIV pre-orders, and both GAME and Gamestation's online sites are issuing warnings to those who wish to pre-order the game. They're definitely running low - and we don't know how much longer supplies will last - but the good news is that stores will have more to sell on the launch day; April 29. Play.com's Gian Luzio told MCV that GTAIV is definitely a big "hardware driver," especially for the PlayStation 3.

"Sales have gone crazy and have proven to be a real hardware driver already," said Luzio. "We've sold out now, but will be getting in more stock as soon as it becomes available. We expect to have some stock back in for the day of release on April 29th."

As for the other sites, GAME's warning reads- "We cannot guarantee delivery on the day of release for orders placed on or after the 7th of April." Gamestation says something similar, and confirms they are no longer accepting pre-orders for the blockbuster title. Now, we in the US are wondering if online sites and brick-and-mortar stores will start having the same problem...if so, we'd strongly suggest pre-ordering GTAIV ASAP.

People should have preordered it 4 months ago like I did. Then they would be guaranteed to get it on release day.

I would say safe bet is on a store that isn't as well known, since GAME won't get it to you now on release, you have to go small time now it seems.

I might go to my local GAME anyway lol. I live in a pretty rural area where there are a lot more 360 owners than PS3 owners, so hopefully it won't make too much difference. As long as I've pre-ordered it, and I get there quickly I should be fine.

That would be good, but online the PS3 version is a number 1 on their pre order chart with the 360 version all the way at 8th, you should be fine but just watch out there are many people buying this game on the PS3 and buying a PS3 for this game.

xD. I pre-ordered mine around 1 week ago so im not sure if I will be getting it in time though it has processed on Play. If I don't get it on time it wont be a big loss anyways as im not to hyped for this to arrive.

Online pre-orders usually arrive the day before release. Plus it's nice to be woken up by a much awaited delivery.

It never happened for me, which is why i always get it at the store. The last few times i pre-ordered online, it took a week after its been released to come to my house. And several days for Express so thats why i don't pre-order online.

My most painless pre-ordering experience was with the Nintendo Wii. I managed to miraculously nab one from Amazon UK a mere three minutes after they "opened the gates". I checked a few moments later and they were sold out! It arrived on the day of release with absolutely no hassle.

          Sometimes it just works!

Oh damn. I better get to pre-ordering. All of the places I checked online are now displaying an "unprecedented demand" notice. Not only that but it seems they are no longer offering any free Microsoft Points promotions.

I'm currently calling up my local stores to enquire about the game, but those I've spoken to so far have just repeated what is on their websites.

    Whoops!

From the information I've gathered over the phone, the limitations set on pre-orders online are actually company policies that filter down the retail stores. I went with Amazon UK and grabbed it for a cool £34.97 with discount.

Do people actually think pre-ordering [this game] anywhere 3 weeks before the games release will save them a copy? I mean come on, this game is obviously wanted by 95% of every PS3/360 owner. So if you haven't reserved the game yet, you're a friggin helmet and deserve NOT to get your game on the first day.

This games release is only comparible to a console release at this point, i mean once it has sold out it could be a month until all pre orders are met at this rate.
