InstantAction to give web-based gaming a good name?

chautemoc | April 05, 2008 | News | PC
GarageGames is a company on a mission to change the plight of web-based gaming with a new service called InstantAction.

Free and easy and boasting more than just your expected puzzle game knockoffs (Fallen Empire: Legions is in the works), it sure sounds promising.
The words "web browser game" [typically] sound about as much fun as "public access show." But GarageGames aims to change that with InstantAction, a new service offering browser games designed for hardcore players.

"This stigma was really a problem for us when we were starting out," confesses Josh Williams, CEO of GarageGames. "It still is, perceptually, when someone hears about InstantAction for the first time. But now it's a lot easier to overcome the hurdle -- they can just go play it."

The games I played so far are pretty impressive, at least from a technological standpoint. Are the games Java-based?

None of the games so far are particularly fun, though. This is only the beta, so I'll reserve judgement, but the only one I played for a while is the marble rolling game (Zap was pretty decent, too). Hopefully, upcoming games like Quake and Fallen Empires will be fun, though. I'm looking forward to seeing how the service turns out, it seems like a great idea.

Sounds OK, but I doubt it will be any better than what is already out there.
