Rumour: Resident Evil 4 Classic Edition for PS3 and 360?

tidus04 | March 29, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
Capcom's very own Resident Evil 4 is currently under rumour for the production of a Classic Edition release set for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

This rumour has serviced around because of "The Horror is Alive" on the Resident Evil forum presented a video that shows Resident Evil 4 Classic Edition being played on a Xbox 360.

Though since the release of the video Capcom have shot down any claims made that they was in the process of creating Resident Evil 4 Classic Edition.

Let's not jump to any conclusions.

Much like the series' signature antagonists, its another instalment of the latest Resident Evil rumour that just won't stay dead. True to its sordid word earlier in the week, RE fansite, The Horror is Alive has presented video 'proof' as to the existence of a so-called upcoming 'Resident Evil 4: Classic Edition' for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The video, uploaded to YouTube, bares all the irrefutable and unmistakable evidence of the claims the fansite has made thus far. It's got the RE series' mysterious Umbrella soldier, Hunk, running around and shooting things in what we're all to assume is the secret character's exclusive new scenario for a 'Resident Evil 4: Classic Edition'. And... well... that's about it really.

Indeed, before we're all too quick to cry foul of "liar, liar, pants on fire" towards Capcom's denials of there being plans for a 'Resident Evil 4: Classic Edition' "at this time", let's do as The Horror is Alive's own loyal forum members -- and understand the video's validity with common sense (preferably, without the obligatory over-analysing drama).

The wily context sensitive imagery of Xbox 360 controller buttons notwithstanding, keep in mind how easy it is for one to simply mod any other version of Resident Evil 4 released thus far, to realise the simple notion of plunking Hunk in a non-descript RE4 environment and calling it a day. The fact that the YouTube account The Horror is Alive used for uploading this 'exclusive' video is also home to other videos of Resident Evil 4 visual and character-based hacks is even more (hilariously) telling.

The fansite promises that there will be an official announcement for a 'Resident Evil 4: Classic Edition' "early next week", using Capcom's US message boards as its ironic 'proof'. The irrelevantly traditional annual day of 'look how immature this medium's industry still is' (also referred to in some rare parts as 'April Fool's Day') is also "early next week".

Our sides are practically splitting already.

It's not like they'd take the RE5 team and make them do this. Why does everyone assume developers only have one team?

What do you mean by that?

      Meh...

I agree with Zero they need to let RE4 go. Its a great game but I want Capcom to put more in RE5.

The 360 controller is the best controller ever released imo.

They had versions on the GCN and PS2; why does the controller interest anyone?

And the 360 controller is fine, but it's hardly an excitement point of the system. It's a fine controller but it's nothing special.

What's up with the video? I never quite got to the end, but since when has the TMP been anything but a weapon to sell at the earliest convenience? Since when did Leon wear a funky mask?

I'm pretty sure this is an April Fool's joke though.

"The irrelevantly traditional annual day of 'look how immature this medium's industry still is' (also referred to in some rare parts as 'April Fool's Day') is also "early next week"."

I love how they worded that.

Yeap, buy the same *bleep*ing game you got on the GC/PS2/PC/Wii on the next gen consoles for the full price...featuring Hunk. Obviously this is bullshit, but this really does sound like something Capcom would do.

For those of you who don't know, the guy who made this up admitted it was an April Fool's Joke. It also caused him to be banned over at NeoGAF
