Could EA Publish Grand Theft Auto IV?

Supernouva | March 23, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
Most of you probably know about EA's plans to merge and take over Take-Two Interactive. Well, analysts have been pondering the situation and concluded that EA's plans might just come to fruition in time before GTAIV is released. So, that means that EA might have their name and logo on the GTAIV box-art. Obviously, EA wants Take-Two Interactive to get major profits from GTAIV, but they'll have to act quickly to gain control of the GTA franchise. Will EA get Take Two Interactive in time for GTAIV?
Everybody has been talking about EA's bid to takeover Take-Two Interactive, and that includes the industry's most prominent analysts. These analysts have concluded that the deal might go through in time for EA to have their name on the box for Grand Theft Auto IV and Manhunt 2, according to MCVUK. That's right, GTAIV might be published by Electronic Arts.

"I do believe GTA IV will be an EA game," said GameShadow and Lodestar freelance analyst Nicholas Lovell. "Whether it is the same game that it would have been under Take Two remains to be seen. I could also imagine EA trying to keep the Rockstar brand as an edgier label, in the same way that wholesome, family-friendly Disney released films like Pulp Fiction or Gangs of New York under the Miramax label."

On the other hand, some analysts don't agree that this deal will go through in time for EA to publish GTAIV. Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter is one of them, as he believes this takeover won't be officially completed for "two or three months." DFC Intelligence's president David Cole sided with Pachter and said a "takeover like this will take some time." Even so, it goes without saying that EA would like to tap as much of the GTAIV honey pot as humanly possible, so it'll be a race to see if EA gets their name on the box. Could it really happen...?

    I hope not.
What has EA done for the game?
    Nothing.
All they want is their company name published on a popular game they never can make or create by their own.
Trying to boost some popularity to their company.

Thats pretty harsh i mean yes EA aren't a liked company but at the same time EA have lots of popular franchise, Fifa Soccer and Madden are just two, they have made plenty more and they know a good deal when they see it, i would much prefer the EA Games of today taking over Take Two than the EA Games of 5 years ago, atleast EA are making good games currently and finally realising you can't rush greatness.

The only thing I find good about EA are The Sims games.
That's the only thing I do know from EA that is good, apart from their EA Sports stuff.
But EA is not the kind of Company I see on an GTA game.
They just don't fit with that Genre.
GTA is too big for EA.

Thats another reason why I don't want this to happen. If it goes through, EA will have a lock on the sports game industry and I'll have no choice but to live with the crap they produce every year.

Uhhhh, who hasn't figured out that EA wants to acquire them in order to benefit from GTA IV?

They want to acquire them BEFORE it comes out for two reasons:

1 - Will be more expensive after shares go up from GTA IV's massive success (come on, you know it will be very successful)...

2 - They will recoup money lost from acquisition of the expensive T2 company, upon GTA IV's release >_> Maybe not totally, but GTA IV alone will absorb a ton of the lost money.

EA hasn't done anything for the game >_> And well, EA isn't exactly the best company out there >_>

If they DO get their hands on T2 eventually, let us hope they don't ruin it >_>

Of course they'll ruin it. I'll never forgive EA for what they did to Westwood. Westwood created the Command and Conquer franchise and made it great. Then EA bought them and SHUT THEM DOWN. >_>

To be honest nothing EA will do can ruin GTA IV, this could very well be the last great Rockstar made game, so lets just enjoy it and hope for the best, i for one think nothing will change, on the face of things Rockstar will continue to only make 3 games every 6 years, and if anything changes it will be that the boxart alters to fit to EA's rather large publisher stamp of aproval, i would be surprised if the games changed.

EA is only looking to buy GTA's publisher, not developer. EA published previous Command and Conquers, but they were still developed by Westwood. It will be the same thing with GTA, they will only publish them, not develop them. A Problem will only arise if EA looks to buy Rockstar. So frankly if EA has the mind and the money to buy T2 before GTA comes out and profit from it's release, good for them.

Isn't Take Two the parent company of Rockstar?
