An exclusive survival-horror for Wii? Get ready for Fatal Frame IV!

Gothic Girl | March 21, 2008 | News | Wii
That's right, folks. The Nintendo Wii is getting an exclusive survival-horror game for Wii: Fatal Frame IV.

The recently released April-issue of Nintendo Power Magazine has revealed a few details and screens on the new game.
With Nintendo publishing FFIV, Tecmo's frightening Fatal Frame series will get some much-needed publicity. And in return, Tecmo will be giving Nintendo a much-needed 'mature' game to add to their collection.
From scan: Following in the giant-sized footsteps of Monster Hunter, another major Japanese developed franchise is making the jump to Wii exclusivity: Tecmo's bone-chilling Fatal Frame.
Even more surprising is that the project will be a mega-collaboration between Tecmo, Nintendo and Grasshopper Manufacture (of No More Heroes fame).

For those unfamiliar with the series, it's one of gaming's most legitimately terrifying survival-horror experiences. (more info on the series: here)

Yay! How awesome, that something like this is coming for the Wii... exclusively, no less!

I recall Gothic Girl saying this is one of the more overlooked survival horrors...

Because Survival Horror IS an underrated genre (And I guess, for a good reason)...and the first idiot tat goes "Rez Evil 4 lolz" will get metaphorically bitch slapped.

But for Fatal Frame to have 4 incarnations can't really be described as underlooked. If you wanna talk about almost unknown, it has to be Siren really. The sequel didn't even make it stateside...which pissed me off cuz I liked the first one...and how it literally scared the shit out of me in the dark.

I'd certainly say the FF series is underlooked (heck, any survival-horor game not named "Resident Evil" or "Silent Hill" is underlooked, imo). It also doesn't help that Fatal Frame games are so damn hard to find in stores.
Just look at this thread in the Fatal Frame IV forum - The majority of people in there hadn't heard about (or played) the series before FFIV was announced. And it's no wonder - We only got one trailer for each game in the West (and iirc, some of those trailers weren't even in English), while Japan got bunches of trailers, commercials, gameplay vids, etc.
The series' marketing over here sucks, tbh.
The series is popular in Japan, but overlooked (both by marketers and the audience) in the West.
As mentioned in the article, Fatal Frame definitely needs alot more publicity. If Nintendo doesn't do agood job of publicizing the game this time around, then I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see any more FF games (in the West, anyway). It'll end up with a similar fate to Siren.

Because guns rule in here. Generic military based shooter will over take any other gameplay. I'll agree that Fatal Frame is (at least here) almost nonexistent. But we're talking about a series that has 3 more sequels; that means that it must've made success somewhere. Siren on the other hand has only ONE sequel and released only in JPN and PAL for some reason.

I haven't played FF as I never really had the chance, but I was really glad to have played Siren...and its extremely twisted and scary storyline that sent chills up my spine in the middle of the night.

    I love scary movies.

How much better could it get playing in one. Game but still.

    O....K....

Why isn't this coming on the PS3? Fatal Frame I to III have all been on Sony consoles >_>

Seems kinda odd to just jump ship like that >_>

I liked FF II on my PS2, though I never finished it. Pity it isn't on the PS3, it would likely look really awesome on it >_>

Looks good. Despite me not being pleased that it's only for Wii, I have to admit they do lack some exclusives other than Mario. The Wii sure got a keeper. This might help strengthn their sales and demands. If not, then it could always be ported to the PS3/360.
