With Final Fantasy XIII getting closer to the completion of it's development day by day an interesting article has surfaced the Internet, talking about how Square Enix is betting on the PS3.
Currently the PS3 in the RPG genre is pretty weak and does not have many exclusive or RPG games in it's library, but the Playstation 3 has a huge wave of RPG's coming it's way. Here is a list of what to expect on the PS3 in the near future:
1. Kingdom Hearts III
2. Final Fantasy XIII
3. Final Fantasy Versus XIII
4. New Dragon Quest
5. Star Ocean 4
These are only Square Enix RPG's.
And there is much more but I won't list many that have yet to be confirmed, but moving on with the article. The author of the article speaks of how FFXIII will remain PS3 exclusive because of the Crystal Tools Engine which is designed primarily for the PS3. It is said to allow CGI to run in real time, meaning playing the game will be as if it's a CGI movie. Plus it said that the Crystal Tools Engine has been focused in many ways on the PS3 that to port a game that's designed with it is not in the developers short term sights. Most RPG's being created by Square Enix on the Xbox 360 are developed on the over used Unreal Engine 3 which shows that the Xbox 360 does not warrant Square Enix's trust to bring a A+ RPG to the Xbox 360.
The author continues on by saying that by the time the games on the PS3 is released, PS3 will be the dominant format.
To take this argument through to its natural conclusion: if Square Enix is the messiah of RPGs and they’re betting on PS3, then Sony’s machine should ultimately be considered the console of choice for the genre’s fans.
Now there is only one thing left to do: see Final Fantasy XIII in action.

And KH3 doesn't even exist.
Do I need to like, add sarcasm tags or are there people that genuinely love Sony so much they see nothing wrong with ITANI's articles?
And to be honest, Square haven't made an 'A+' game since Final Fantasy IX.
If I had to give them gradings it would be a C+ for FFX and a B+ for FFXII.
And most of the recent games that HAVE sold well have ended up with mixed reviews... FFX-2, FF: DoC, FFXII, KHII, etc.
Many fans buy Squeenix's games in the hope that they will be fantastic. Yet even if the game isn't fantastic, the fans will still go out and buy their next game. As much as I hate to admit it, I've done that myself on a few occasions.
"Most RPG's being created by Square Enix on the Xbox 360 are developed on the over used Unreal Engine 3 which shows that the Xbox 360 does not warrant Square Enix's trust to bring a A+ RPG to the Xbox 360."
Unreal Engine 3 is an SDK designed for next-gen development, it was sold as that when it was going around shows like TGS, E3, DICE and so on. The ease of use and cut in development cost makes it an effective choice for companies that want to produce titles without breaking the bank doing so. The amount of publishers that licensed the tool was huge as a result because it was effective in that manner.
Discounting a functional engine and SDK simply because it's been accepted by the industry as an effective platform to produce titles on is a bit childish to say the least. Despite what fanatics may desire, companies aren't going to risk closing up shop just to tell you they spent their annual budget making one title and that they might not even make up the cost of that title at all. Odd, if it's such a cheap engine why is it that Sony openly embraced UE3 when it debuted on PS3 hardware?
A little less fan injection, a little more common sense.
On top of this Taku Murata makes note from GDC that Crystal Tools have already been finalized around the 360 and PS3. -_-:
"1UP: Crystal Tools encompasses everything except handheld and mobile games. Do you think there's a need for a similar sort of framework for these platforms?
TM: Well, Crystal Tools was mainly designed for large-scale development. That's why it targets PS3 and 360 -- systems where large volumes of data are used. For smaller systems, something like this wouldn't really be necessary. The tool is usable, but we don't have the libraries in place for portable systems and don't really see the need to go in that direction."
In general it's painful to look at this posting.
First response: "WHOA! KH3! Off to the store I go to buy a PS3!"
My addiction to Kingdom Hearts is a sever weakpoint. I bought a PS2 entirely for it, and now I will shill out $500 for KH3... ;__;
You know seeing as it's not been announced as a PS3 game, never mind an exclusive.
Just doesn't seem like they'd go multiplatform with it, not since they've done the first two on the PS2 >_>
edit: -1 thumbs. I must've been mistaken... Can someone tell me what other console it was out on.
X Edit: Ubisoft released the PC version of DMC3. How you play that without a gamepad? I have no *bleep*ing clue...
PC versions don't count.
"We feel this system will be the best, oh and by the way we're releasing this game next week, buy one please!
Paranoia works well enough on people, there's no reason it wouldn't be effective in driving up insecurity with gamers.
