Wal-Mart has Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Twisted | February 28, 2008 | News | Wii
A Walmart store in the United States has Brawl eleven days before release, people are wondering why they would ship it so soon. The game is to be released on March 9th 2008 in North America.
Our resident retail mole and NWR Forums regular UncleBob has informed us that his Walmart store has already received shipments of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Nintendo's all-star fighter for Wii. This delivery, and presumably many other deliveries in the Walmart chain of stores, comes eleven days ahead of the official March 9 North American release date of the game.

A pallet full of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, currently residing in
an unidentified Walmart warehouse.

Walmart computers will not allow the sale of the game before the official release date, so anyone hoping to score an early copy (from Walmart, at least) will be out of luck. However, NWR has been seeing unconfirmed reports of North American retail copies of the game floating around the Internet, which could mean other stores that are also receiving the game may be inadvertently breaking street dates.

Furthermore, this news begs the question: Why is Nintendo shipping the game out to retailers this far in advance of the release date? Traditionally, the dates Nintendo lists on its release calendar are when it ships a game off to retailers, with games being available in stores a day or two after that.

This is great. They are stocking up on copies, so that nobody who wants one will be left out.

I'm willing to bet those who get there too late will be left out.

      Great news, nonetheless.

its very common for games to be shipped before the ship date, especially to a big distribution network like walmark has

Where and when, mate? I plan on stealing mine with my friend sometime after March 9th. Poor suckers won't even see it coming, and they might not even notice it's gone. So some people leave a little insignia of sorts behind, so people know they've been there. We plan on placing $50 on the counter as that insignia. Perfect plan, right?

Anyways, smart for Wal-Mart, stocking up before it gets sold. Because, what, all stores stock up on the very day it's sold.

Edit: lol, had -1 thumb the last I checked. Guess editing my message paid off.

I NEVER get games before their street dates. I always have to look at images from those lucky enough to get foolish employees to sell them their copy.

I got mass effect one day beore relase =D

If you preorder from an online store e.g amazon. There almost guaranteed to send it to you 2 to 3 days earlier than the street release. because they send all their stuff off at once on certain dates, And so if a game is released on a Thursday and they send stuff off on Tuesdays, That means your game will probably reach you by Wednesday

But you would have to pay extra for one-day shipping right? The free option usually takes me 5 days. That means I would have to pay more to get it a day or two before release. I'm too cheap

How does it make you mad that they are stocking up early, so that they have a less of a chance of running out?

It's only a matter of a few days before it reaches US gamer's Wiis. And a matter of millennia before it reaches the UK.

Nintendo should follow Kojima/Konami and have a simultaneous release date around the world. Even if it means a good delay, it's more...fair.
