Due to me being away for a week, there are Virtual Console updates that were not added to GameGrep. To rectify the situation, I bring you the first (and hopefully last) edition of Wii Virtual Console: Week in Review (name pending).
North America updated on
Monday the 18th, with the new standard offering of two games. However, these two games aren't just mediocre low-tier stuff that you'd toss aside.
Game 1 for the NA crowd is Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom for the NES. The final game of the Ninja Gaiden trilogy on the NES, the game pits you once again as Ryu Hayabusa, this time framed for the murder of his lover, Irene Lew.
Game 2 is the one that I have been hyping about every since it appeared in the other
two regions:
Phantasy Star II for the Sega Genesis. I shouldn't have to say anything further.
NA Recap:
NES: Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom, 1 Player, 500 Points
GEN: Phantasy Star II, 1 Player, 800 Points
Japan on Tuesday the 19th got a whopping four games, two of which are major highlights.
The first highlight is Tantei Jinguuji Saburo: Shinjuku Chuuo Kouen Satsujin Jiken (Detective Saburo Jinguuji: Shinjuku Central Park Murder Case) which is a detective/visual novel in the vein of the Gyakuten Saiban/Ace Attorney games. This particular series will debut in the US on the DS, under the title Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles. This particular game though, is on the Famicom.
The other highlight is Custom Robo V2, the second game for the N64 from the Custom Robo series. Americans first got a glimpse of the series from Custom Robo: Battle Revolution for the GameCube. It is also the first Custom Robo game to support four players.
JP Recap:
FAM: Tantei Jinguuji Saburo: Shinjuku Chuuo Kouen Satsujin Jiken (Detective Saburo Jinguuji: Shinjuku Central Park Murder Case), 1-2 Players, 500 Points
N64: Custom Robo V2, 1-4 Players, 1000 Points
SMD: Wrestleball, 1-2 Players, 600 Points
PCE: Atlas, 1 Player, 800 Points - CD Game
Europe also got a dynamite release of its own on Friday the 22nd, by getting one ridiculously awesome game, and one overdue game.
The first game they got was the a little game called Street Gangs, better known as River City Ransom in the US. As a Kunio-kun game, RCR sported super-deformed characters in a beat-em-up that contained RPG elements. Certainly a must-buy.
The other game the region received was Adventure Island, which North America had received back in September of '07.
EU Recap:
NES: Street Gangs, 1-2 Players, 500 Points
NES: Adventure Island, 1 Player, 500 Points
