Entertainment Consumers Association tells Jack Thompson to stop being an attention-seeker.

Gothic Girl | February 16, 2008 | News | Misc
It's about time some big names in gaming started telling Jack Thompson off. The Entertainment Consumers Association was so disgusted with Jack Thompson blaming the NIU shooting on video games that they wrote a statement regarding both the college shooting and the irresponsible behaviour of attention-seekers who profit from such shootings (*cough* Thompson *cough*).
quote Entertainment Consumers Association
We'd like to extend our condolences to the families, friends and classmates of those who were affected in the school shooting at Northern Illinois University. Separately, we are disgusted, but no longer shocked, to find that anti-game activists are again rushing to conclusions about what drove Stephen Kazmierczak, the clearly disturbed 27 year old who police say was responsible for this tragedy, to commit such an act.

Blaming video games for the behavior of the mentally-challenged is vile on many levels. And, as Generations X and Y mature, it is extremely likely that just about all of us have played at least one video game at some point in our lives. Drawing a parallel between games and violence without any substantive proof is sensationalism for its own sake. This is a sad event, made worse by the irresponsible actions of attention-seekers and the media that has given them a platform for their reckless venom.

So sad that a statement like this has to even be issued, and that such calm, reasonable statements are ignored by types like Fox News in favour of the ravings of a spotlight-hungry, ambulance chasing loon.

Well the end is near for Jacko finally. If the ECA has finally had it with Jacko, it won't be too long before other companies and such just tell him to jump off a cliff.

The ECA's been fed up with Jack Thompson for quite some time. If any of you keep up with the ECA's GamePolitics site, you'd notice that by people's reactions (who are ECA members) to Jack Thompson's comments on articles (yes, he does frequent there) and by the editor's remarks on some of the articles. This is just the first time the ECA has issued an official statement.

I don't understand why they just wont fire jack from his job?
He's clearly out of line, why don't they just fire that loonatic, and let him scrub toilets for the rest of his career?

That's all he's good for now.

If I was his boss, I would have already fired him, because I love playing video games, and I know games aren't the blame.

They've tried (At least twice, I think) to get him disbarred from practicing law in Florida (yes, this whacko is an attorney)....

He manages to pass the tests (at least one related to mental health even).......

I don't believe he has a boss, per-se, but rather, he works on his own.

Ehhh, he's getting on in years, let his death be an international gamer's holiday (unofficially of course)....

They should just rip his Diploma apart, and take the rights of his work away from him, or anything else that could do that.

Someone like him doesn't deserve a job like that.

        LOL!
I don't know, in Jack's case they probably make an exception.
Gamers and Game Companies would be glad about it if Jack died, of course that's not nice to say and also disrespectful, but on the other hand, no one likes a stubborn Jack-ass like him anyway, and besides; even Jack himself is disrespectfull with using School shooting as an example to his Anti-Game stuff.

And they're trying once again, although this time it might look like he's actually going to get the boot.

If it's interesting and it's related to a major title or tragedy, it's news and unfortunately it does deserve to be posted, regardless of how fed up everyone is with him.
