Microsoft responds to January NPD sales data

wohoo | February 15, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 Wii Company
Microsoft's take on the recently released NPD Group sales data for January 2008. It's fun to see the companies squeezing out every possible thing to make them look good.
Before the January tally was released today, Microsoft knew their Xbox 360 sales numbers were likely to trail PS3’s (which they did) and preemptively issued a statement, making sure everyone knows why they were trailing. The statement reads: “Our retailers are telling us that Xbox 360 is selling as fast as they can restock, but due to this high demand, Xbox 360 is experiencing temporary shortages. We are working as quickly as we can to replenish inventory.”

I call bullshit! I have NEVER seen the Xbox sold out of ANY store I have gone to in my area. While I realize that doesn't say much overall......the fact that I can find at least 20-30 at any given time seems like no shortage to me. I haven't been able to even look at a Wii since November.

Sony masterfully shows off its sales and Microsoft is funny because it's squeezing out every possible thing.

What are you, some sort of douche?

yeah.. sarcasm is a bitch on the net. but btw: "It's fun to see the companies squeezing out every possible thing" is FAR from being the same as "Microsoft is funny because it's squeezing out every possible thing". I also said COMPANIES, as in both of them.

What are you, some sort of douche?

Funny, considering the GameStop that's seven miles away from me did in fact sell out like a week ago. And well, Wal-Mart always has at least one in. I guess it just depends on which area you're in, but then again, MS isn't completely reliable when reporting all of it's statistics. That doesn't mean Sony is completely innocent either. When you're trying to sell something, of course you'll throw stuff in there to make it sound better.

Why do i see this as Damage control by MS. I mean Seriously, i don't think the 360 is as popular as the Wii where shortages are a main issue. I mean can't they just admit they didn't do so well in the month of January, especially in the U.S compared to Sony, which their killer apps have yet to be out. Most of the games on the PS3 right now is Multiplatform. IDK i don't believe the whole shortage crap.

While 360 might not have sold most consoles, it's important to note that it absolutely dominated software.
