To celebrate Valentines Day, Kotaku have listed their five favorite gaming love stories of all time. While many may not agree with them (Dante and Trish had a love story?), it's needless to say that the couples are at least well-known to gamers.

4. Dante and Trish - Devil May Cry Series (PS2)
If the best girl a man can find is one that reminds him of his mother, then Dante has certainly hit the jackpot. Created by the demon lord Mundus during the first game to resemble the devil hunter's mother Eva, Trish wound up developing feelings for Dante, helping him to defeat Mundus and ending up as his partner. While the fact that her feelings stem from being made in his mother's image is kind of creepy if you stop and think about it, there's no denying Trish and Dante were made for each other - well, at least she was.
3. Jackie Estacado and Jenny - The Darkness (Xbox 360, PS3)
This pair grew up together as orphans, and mob thug Jackie spent most of his life shielding the innocent and sweet Jenny from the horrors of the seedy underworld he moved about in. If I had to pick the single most emotionally charged moment in gaming from last year, it would be the moment Jackie Estacado and his girlfriend Jenny cease to be a couple, so to speak. I won't ruin for anyone who still hasn't played the game, but I got so *bleep*king angry I stayed up the whole night to finish the game.
2.Tidus and Yuna - Final Fantasy X (PS2)
A summoner of Yevon destined to die, Yuna finds the man of her dreams in mismatched pants leg blitzball star Tidus. Unfortunately, over the course of Final Fantasy X we learn the Tidus is the man of the fayth's dreams as well, with the end of the game finding him fading away as he desperately tries to hold onto her.

Final Fantasy VIII's main theme was love. There were alot more lovey-dovey moments in VIII than FFX. FFX should be up there, but there's no way it's more romantic than VIII.
As for Dante and Trish as a romantic couple? That's a big 'wtf!'
Dante and Trish have an...understanding.
Heck, a relationship like Naked Snake and EVA's from MGS3 had more romance in it than Dante and Trish, and even then, they hardly count as being in the top five love stories of all time.
Kotaku needs to play more games. XD
And agreed with Storm, wtf at Double Dragon.
I guess FF8 didn't cut the draw Gothic Girl, and i don't think Squall and Rinoa Beats Yuna and Tidus, i would them over FF8 any day.
But i guess its subject to your preference, i didn't think the Love story was even that great in FF8. And have i said why multiple times, so no need to explain my self.
Unlike FFX, where it all just seemed rushed. Tidus & Yuna got together only because there had to be a couple there, that's my impression at least.
All in all, maybe the ending was what gave FFX the edge.
Most people feel the same way as i do. I just didn't like she made him love her. I still think Rinoa and Seifer would have been a better fit.
Although I'm not a fan of some of Rinoa's ... uh ... "methods" in getting together with Squall, she hardly forced him into loving her. If he was being forced into doing something he didn't want, then surely he'd back out and say he's not interested in her?
And you're saying that Tidus and Yuna grew more than Squall and Rinoa? That's a laugh. Squall was an introverted emo jerk before he met Rinoa. Rinoa was a whiny spoilt brat before she met Squall. By the end of the game, they had grown into more open and caring people, and all because of their love for each other (and their team).
It's a joke to say that Tidus and Yuna grew more than that. I'm not downplaying Tidus and Yuna's relatiosnhip, but it was only a part of the whole Pilgrimage storyline, whereas FFVIII's main story revolved around Squall and Rinoa's romance and how they grew and changed as people because of it, (with the sorceress/Time Compression storyline coming in second).
Not to be derogative in any way, but Sora's reaction is the gayest I have ever witnessed a game character act, especially when a friend of equal importance was standing beside him.
FFX did have the sequel, a big part of which, was about possibly getting Tidus back somehow...And (spoiler warning)
She DOES, if you get 100% completion, or something....
In any case, meh, I'm sure there are much better lists out there >_>
Good list.
Reuniting them in FFX-2 was such a piss-poor way to continue the storyline. The FFX ending was emotional - Tidus and Yuna finally fell in love, only to have that taken away from them at the end. It's tragic.
