Tomb Raider : Underworld not under pressure to out do Uncharted : Drake's Fortune

StarJet | February 03, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 3
The whole Tomb Raider franchise and the new PS3 game Uncharted : Drake's Fortune seem to have certain similarities. And as a result, some gamers tend to think that in trying to out do Uncharted, TR : Underworld may lose its puzzle/adventure quality and become another game focused on action like Uncharted.
But the senior brand manager of Tomb Raider says that they’re not feeling like they’re under pressure to out-do Uncharted and that the upcoming Tomb Raider: Underworld “will be very different to Uncharted”.
There’s no denying that the Tomb Raider franchise and the recent PS3-exclusive Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune have their share of similarities. But directly comparing the two games is unfair to both since, at the end of the day, they’re still two very different games. Both do include a healthy amount of pathfinding, but Uncharted is a lot more focused on the action while Tomb Raider has always been a puzzle/adventure game first and foremost.

But a lot of gamers still fear for some reason that the new Tomb Raider might end up being too similar to Uncharted.

    Lara...

...uhh to the topic at hand....right

Yeah, reminds me of the Resistance v. Gears issues everyone had. One is more puzzle oriented than the other.

Uncharted was alot better than the previous Tomb Raider games, in my opinion. But, if the next one focuses on action, it may top Uncharted.

I'd think that Tomb Raider Underworld should have those puzzle aspects. Tomb Raider is not Tomb Raider without those.

Wow, it's amazing seeing how much Lara has changed since the good ol' days of the PSone.

Tbh, I don't think Tomb Raider should try to compete with Uncharted. As said, they are totally different games. I wouldn't want Tomb Raider to completely get rid of it's puzzles and adventure because that's a big part of TR.

I agree. I also don't want them to get rid of the puzzles. The puzzles was one of the main things that interested me in TR and it felt like it was the pinnacle of the TR series.

Except that many gamers don't like to think, they just want to blast the living daylights out things. Which is why they miss out.

Gotta agree with you, man. The best parts of games like Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia are sometimes the puzzle parts.

If they weren't feeling any pressure from Uncharted, then they never would have mentioned it.

I beat LEGEND, and I was waiting for the next one; Does she save her mom!? Will she turn emo!?

Anyway, I am glad it might outdo a game that tried to rip off of tombraider
