Square promises Final Fantasy XIII for 2008

Silver Mirror | January 28, 2008 | News | Playstation 3
Despite its hype Final Fantasy XIII still had no official release date announced. But now Mr. Testuya Nomura, character designer for FFXIII, has sworn by a 2008 release date.
Not only that, he also hints at a playable demo to be released on PSN soon!
Here comes Square-Enix announcing a 2008 release date for FF13. No date, just the year, which is plenty enough for us eager FF fans. But how much truth is really behind this, because I don't want to have my heart broken or tears run down my face. According to Joystiq Mr. Testuya Nomura, character designer for FFXIII says that "the long wait for the Fabula Nova Crystallis collection will be over soon enough. Not only does he swear by the game's 2008 release date, he teases at a playable demo for FFXIII on the PlayStation Network a while before the game is released, to show off the game's revamped battle system."

I haven't enjoyed a Final Fantasy for about 5 years now.

I'll probably still end up buying this though. =/

you and the rest of the world.

the whole world's going to buy it.

the whole world's going to say "WELL ITS NOT AS GOOD AS FF7 BUT AT LEAST ITS BETTER THAN FF10"

then the wait commences for the next FF, not remembering how lame the last one was.

Fine then, name me one Final Fantasy game in the main series that has been bombed both financially and critically ... Oo wait, none of them have ... Saying that the Final Fantasy series is lame is about as arrogant as you can get

Also, the article that this article links to, Joystiq, has taken one of Nomura's lines out of context. In the interview he actually said that 2008 would be the year of a media blowout for FFXIII, not the year of release. The only comment he gave on a release date was " When will I be able to sleep ? ". I'm sorry but late 2008 early 2009 is looking too likely ^^
... And although a demo is being slated for 2008, Nomura never said it would be out on the PSN either - It'll probably be a bonus disc with another Square title, like all their other FF demo's have been.

Yeah, I'm still thinking they'll save this for Spring '09, and pretty much dominate that season.

Not really. In actuality, with other titles like MGS4 and DMC4 coming up, FFXIII has kinda been sitting in the dark for awhile.

Anyway, Square had better deliver this year.
