Iwata is sorry about Brawl delay.

Gothic Girl | January 22, 2008 | News | Wii
At the start of his latest "Iwata Asks" interview, the President of Nintendo himself, Satoru Iwata, offered an apology for the delay of Super Smash Bros. Brawl ...
Hello, Everyone. My name is Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo Co., Ltd. Beginning today, I would like to deliver an interview that explains the vision and the development process behind the creation of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. But before we begin, I would like to offer an apology.

With the completion of the game falling behind schedule, we were unable to keep our promised release date, despite our greatest efforts in attempting to release this game on time. I would like to extend my most sincere apology to all of our customers that are anticipating the title’s release, and also to our retailers.

I have asked Mr. Nagata from "Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun" (a webpage hosted by famed copywriter Shigesato Itoi), who is a fan of Smash Bros. himself, to take on the role as the editor for this Iwata Asks interview. The last time he helped us was with the Iwata Asks series before the Wii launch, but I feel like I have asked the perfect candidate to convey the appeal of Smash Bros.
I hope you enjoy this interview.

I'm sure I'd be sorry too if I had a huge amount of angry people annoyed with me because one of the most, if not the most anticipated game of last/this year was delayed quite a bit.

Still, guess I can't blame them with the amount of content they are floggin in.

Definitely. It's worth the wait, so why should there be angry customers? Especially if it's only a month's delay. We can keep busy with No More Heroes or something.

I can't wait to see the editoral of the next Nintendo Power; I'm sure there'll be a lot of people complaining about the new delay.

I was upset too, but I can't blame them. Hopefully this will be the last one, though.

As usual, I never understand how people can be so impatient. They could have just gone ahead and released the game as it was, glitchy and probably slow-running. If they need more time to fine-tune the game, it can only be because they truly want to give gamers their money's worth. A month-long delay isn't THAT bad, how many gamers were pissed off when MGS4 was delayed pretty much half-a year? Virtually nobody.

I was happy with the delays, what would you prefer? A rushed game? or a game that is constantly getting better by the second?

Yeah, an anticipated rushed game from last year would be Soldier of Fortune: Payback. That was disappointing, as I was a huge fan of SoF and SoFII.

There were practically no decent features to it. It didn't even have basics such as being able to chat with other players in game.

Its funny. Some will always say things like "People need to be patient, blah blah, why would you want them to release a glitchy product, blah blah, etc." I can't speak for everyone, but people who say these things are missing the point. I am extremely upset that Metal Gear Solid 4 has been delayed for what seems like forever. Am I angry that they aren't rushing an unfinished product to the store? Of course I'm not. What I'm upset about, is the fact that they are having these "issues" that is causing the delay. Am I mad at the programmers? No, shit happens. I'm just mad because MGS4 is probably #1 on my list of games I've been waiting for since the new generation of consoles came out, so naturally I'm not exactly happy that I can't play it when I thought I would be able to.

Its the same with anything in life. If you've been anticipating something only to find out that you have to continue to wait, you are going to be upset. Its a natural feeling, especially when things get multiple delays, closer and closer to the release date. Its like dangling a steak in front of a starving man tied to a tree.

Well that's true, they should have prevented these issues well before a release date, or just not give out a release date until the game isn't glitchy and such...highly anticipated games such as MGS4 and SSBB, too.

I'm sure we're all at least a bit upset about the delays, that perhaps they should just release a patch soon after it's release, but it can't be helped. I find it better this way, as they are trying not to disappoint people who have waited so long for these titles, only to get it and say, "what's with all the damn game problems I'm getting?"

I have similar thoughts. I would be way more pissed if a game like MGS4 or Brawl were released, and it being labeled "Devil May Cry 2", if you all remember the letdown that turned out to be. Brawl and MGS4 are part of long-running series with hefty reputations, and they do not deserve to be left incomplete or glitchy just because everyone just has to play it.

The gaming community can be so hypocritical, if a game is rushed, it is labeled the "developer's fault", when it was the gamers clamoring for an early release.

Plus, there's more to life than video games. Try reading a book or enjoying some fresh air to pass the time.

I never wanted this game to be rushed anyways and when I heard of the delay, I was glad that we got it. I rather play Brawl when they think the game is really ready.

And also I enjoyed this interview.

people are right to be angry. this is easily the most anticipated game ever for the wii. When they keep dropping new bits of info on it little by little, making everyone want it that much more, and delaying it at the same time, it's actually pretty infuriating.

its got nothing to do with 'well at least its not going to be glitchy they should take their tame etc', its the fact that we've been waiting for this since before the wii was even out, and EVERYONE is *bleep*ing sick of waiting.
