simExchange: PS3 Slowly Closing In On X360

Supernouva | January 18, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 Wii
According to simExchange, the PS3 is closing the gap in console sales with the X360. Sony sold almost 800,000 consoles in December, with the Xbox 360 leading with 1.26 million units sold. The sales ratio is growing smaller and smaller, and with the PS3's lineup of much anticipated games, the PS3 is expected to come head to head with the Xbox 360 in console sales.
We provided you with the NPD's December console sales yesterday, and the simExchange has further noted that the PlayStation 3 continues to narrow the sales gap in comparison to Microsoft's Xbox 360.

"Our NPD Preview report stated that the prediction market expected the Xbox 360 to outsell the PS3 1.7 to 1 in a closing gap; actual results were 1.58 to 1, a significant jump from November 2007's 1.8 to 1 sales ratio," said analyst Jesse Divnich. "For January, the prediction market expects Xbox 360 sales to ring in at 358,000 units compared to PS3 sales at 229,000 units, a 1.56 to 1 sales ratio."

    Very good news.

though i dont really trust npd numbers.

all theres to say, Sony pulled one hell of a 1st year for PS3 im really surprised the system is even selling in the USA with all the negativity sorrounding the system since it was 1st shown 3 years ago.
lots of hot games alreary for a one year old console quite possibly the best line up i have seen in video game history.

    Uncharted
    Lair
    NG Sygma
    Virtuah fighter 5
    Heavenly Sword
    Formula 1
    Ridge Racer 7
    UT3
    Ratchet & clank Future
    Warhawk
    EOJ.
    ect.

Definitely expected. I sensed things turned around for Sony during the holiday season, many people I know got PS3's as gifts and so far, they absolutely love it. When more people obtain, their friends, family tries the system out, word spreads and more consoles are bought.

And for the list...how could a list like that include Ridge Racer and leave out Metal Gear Solid 4?

MGS4 isn't out yet, that list only contains games which are available now

I have to agree with Lord, the only decent looking game in that lineup is UT3
Really how many of those games have you played? I have played, rented or owned the majority of those and all are excellent titles

How come FoM isn't in there? Anyway, that's kinda old news. Sony's deffinatly on the up though, can't wait to see what happens when MGS4 and GT5 come out.

Is it that surprising? The PS series has always had kind of a slow start then built up speed. And it's hard to say that it's a huge win when considering the 360 has been out for quite awhile. The PS3 will pass the 360 at some stage. There's no doubt there unless Sony does something stupid. But I don't think Microsoft will really mind, for them it's somewhat mid/late game and that means all they need to do is continue having some great games on the 360 and make sure Xbox Live is up and running (possibly while adding extra stuff) till they jump to the next Xbox console.

Well its not really anything to do with the consoles itself.

Its really do to with that so many people already have 360s. So the sales are slowly lowering as people keep on buying. Wheras the PS3 is newr and therfor there are less people who own them whihc equals a greater market to sell to.

Since when were Xbox 360's selling rates higher than PS3?

Since they were released? The X360 has slaughtered the PS3 in every market aside from Japan, of course.
