Blu-ray defections prompts HD-DVD price slashes

mistermostyn | January 14, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
With a host of HD-DVD studio backers shifting focus to Sony's Blu-ray, Toshiba's players have been cut in price in an effort to push consumer interest.
Although HD-DVD has recently lost Warner Bros, New Line Home Entertainment, and HBO Home Video, prices of its third generation 1080i HD-A3 player have dropped to just below $140 USD via online retailer Amazon.com. Similarly, the 1080p HD-A30 is now priced at a little under $180 USD.

I don't know how much good that'll do them. Make some deals with other companies to feature their movies and such in HD-DVD, make the player an internal addition to the 360, and then I'll be interested.

What about the millions of current 360 owners? If they were to offer the HD-DVD add on for say... $49.99 I bet it would sell millions. Then Toshiba can go to studios and say "we are in x amount of homes."

What does it matter how much HD-DVD players cost if studios aren't making HD-DVD movies? I don't think so many people are going to buy players, that it'll make the studios jump back.

Last ditch effort it seems. HD-DVD is going to become obsolete quite soon. I actually didn't think Blu-ray was going to get as big as it is, but I sure was proved wrong.

Hopefully most consumers will be smart enough to do their research before buying a player of a dying format.

Yea ive been sat back waiting for this Blu-Ray Vs HD war to end so i can get myself some High Definition love.

To be honest i first originally thought HD would come out on top, but atleast its the superior media this time thats comming out ontop, unlike what happened with VHS and Betamax.
