Smash Bros. DOJO Update: Multi-Man Brawl

Akira_EX | January 07, 2008 | News | Wii
After a week-long hiatus for the New Year's holidays, the Smash Bros. DOJO went back to work the other day, with yesterday re-introducing past stages from the previous game.

Today's update is a new game mode: Multi-Man Brawl, in the same vein as the Multi-Man Melee in the previous game. However, instead of the Wireframes, we get a new set of foes to send off: the Meteos-looking Fighting Alloy Team. Through the menu screenshot, we see that the confirmed modes are 10-Man Brawl, 100-Man Brawl, 3-Minute Brawl, 15-Minute Brawl, Endless Brawl and Cruel Brawl.

However, this Multi-Man Brawl brings something new to the table: Co-op play, for two players against the alloys. But wait, there's more: there's also Online Co-op through the Nintendo WFC. Looks like I'll get more use out of this mode than the Multi-Man Melee back in the previous game.

It really is shaping up to be the Game of the Forever.
Dive into a ruthless battle with an army of enemy pawns: the Multi-Man Brawl!

Multi-Man Brawl hosts a wealth of different brawls, including the widely recognized 100-man Brawl.

This is the Multi-Man Brawl menu.

Speaking of the Multi-Man Brawl, what could the enemy team of fighters be this time around? It’s the Fighting Alloy Team!

Red Alloy! He’s not the leader or anything!

Blue Alloy! For some reason she seems kind of gentle.

Yellow Alloy! Those horns are scintillating!

Green Alloy! It may look like Kirby, but it’s not him!

If it’s a 100-Man Brawl, then you continue fighting until you’ve beaten 100 of them. Destroying so many really cleanses the spirit.

Just keep launching them!

This time, we’ve added a much desired mode...

Two-player Multi-Man Brawls!

Amazing! Co-op play?!

With two of you watching each other’s backs, it’s that much more fun. But that’s not all!

There’s a mode for playing with a friend over Nintendo WFC!

We’ve included online Team Multi-Man Brawl!

This is the With Friends menu.

Don’t you want to cooperate sometimes instead of just fight? That’s what this is for.

Yay for more creative enemies to fight over the wire-frames. Those things were boring...also yay for co-op. Gonna be awesome.

Co-Op has become rather popular these days, hasn't it? Decent side game, but I'm a bit confused...do they fly off the screen the moment we hit them?

Not exactly, but they just fly off really easily (unless you are playing Cruel Brawl, where they are more comparable to a normal character). Usually, a strong attack should knock them off right away, but if the attack doesn't have much knockback then they don't go very far. It's mostly dealing with swarms than landing as many hits as possible, since (at least in Melee) you could be fighting around 6 at a time.

It's nice to see that it also has co-op, online and offline. Now when I play Melee with friends, I'm often kind of disappointed due to the lack of co-op modes in anything but multiplayer fights.

I really like these guys more than the ones in melee. Plus it's much better how they have different color and shape and they attack slightly different too. And I can't believe you can FINALLY DO MULTI-PLAYER AND EVEN ON WI-FI! It's a dream come true.

Looks awesome. They do look a whole lot better than the wire frames IMO.
