Microsoft Could there be a next Xbox gen?

Saiya | January 05, 2008 | News | XBOX 360 Company Gaming Tech/Hardware
So apparently there has been a rumor that Microsoft is in planning with a new Xbox game, but here is the catch. It's not for the Xbox 360. It's for the possible next gen system.
In the latest issue of EGM, rumor hound Q-man got a really interesting tidbit from a mole at Microsoft: a secret first party sequel is already being worked on for the next Xbox console. According to the magazine, the game was originally planned for the Xbox 360, but was recently moved over to the next Xbox console.

It's not uncommon for platform holders to begin working on new consoles and launch games years before they actually come out, but this could point to the next Xbox console not being that far off.

So what sequel could it be? Hmmm... a new Halo? The next Forza? How about the next Perfect Dark? Oh, or maybe Fable 2? Kidding.

For more rumors, not to mention an issue packed with previews of some of 2008's biggest games, check out the February issue of EGM, hitting newsstands shortly.

Haha, Fable 2. xD Can't tell what it can be at this point, but platformers usually do well in terms of sales, reviews, etc., so it should be good. To start development now though? I'd rather at least wait for the specs of the next console before developing for it.

Whats to say MS don't already know the specs for their next console?

They are probably already developing it...Sony is probably already working on the PS4 too, as it is...

BTW: Aren't the Devs of Halo now 3rd party? That excludes this game from as a 'first party' next-next gen title game possibility >_>

Microsoft Studios will be the publisher, and they are first party.

Not anymore... Bungie left Microsoft just after Halo 3 launched, they are still on Xbox but they are no longer Microsoft published.

They could still be published by Microsoft, but now, they're an independent developer.

The developer (Bungie) may not be first party, but the publisher (Microsoft Studies) is.

Halo is still owned by Microsoft, that much hasn't changed. M$ payed for those rights, they're staying with them.

The 360's successor? Seems to be the consoles are moving faster and faster. It's been about two years into the 360's life-cycle and they're already thinking about...the 720? This could either ruin it - this was probably a leak or a leak done on purpose, to let everyone know Microsoft is already looking to the future.

Im sure Nintendo, Sony and MS are making the next gen systems. But like i brought up before the 360 has a high potential of lasting the same length as PS3. Whether you want to believe this its true if they keep this system alive and running when the next xbox system comes out.

The Xbox failed because Microsoft rushed the 360 out... History repeats? Looking like it if this proves true.

I wouldn't say fail in a sense that it will die quickly, but I (Along with anyone with sense) would agree that they failed at properly testing it. "Who cares if it has a 33%+ failure rate, we're first! Nah nah nah nah nah."

What, do you live in a [PS3] fantasy world, Existenz, where no mistakes are made? FFS, they are making up for their errors, it's not like they aren't doing anything about it. You really need to stop throwing that in Microsoft's face. They shouldn't have rushed it and should have re-checked the consoles to make sure it wasn't 'faulty,' but again, they have made big steps last year, showing that they do care about their fans.

I can see designs for a console now, but developing? They are probably just brainstorming. We still got at least 3-4 years before the 'next' next-gen consoles, and I would imagine them updating the bar on their systems as much as possible before the final product is at least revealed, and technology will give them the benefit of the doubt.

Why would they bring out another perfect dark? That game was abysmal, everytime I play it I get halfway through the second level before becoming violently ill.

    Hopefully it's Gears 2 though ^^

It still probably won't be out for a long time, and they are probably just making sure they make a better console next time around.
