Future Wii will abandon hand controllers

mistermostyn | December 16, 2007 | News | Wii
While the Nintendo Wii's control mechanic is original and intuitive, chipmaker Intel Corp., anticipates that its processing technology could see Nintendo's next console completely abandon hand-held controllers.
"We imagine some future generation of Wii won’t have hand controllers," commented Justin Rattner, chief technology officer at Intel. "You just set up the cameras around the room and wave your hand like you’re playing tennis."

Neither Intel's vision nor 3DV Systems' ZCam can be compared to the EyeToy.

You can't 'control' on-screen action with the EyeToy or navigate through computer menus much like we've seen in Minority Report, which is where technology is potentially taking us.

Yes, totally, only way buttons to go away is for mind control!

This is a horrible idea. Somewhat more practical, but it's just stupid.

Sounds like it could be fun when it comes to some of the party games I guess, but yeah that would be terrible...

I don't like it. What happens when buttons would actually need to be need.

And to jump and be in a wheelchair. Doesn't mix. =/

The concept is cool, but its heavily flawed. I mean people in wheeled chairs are heavily limited to this idea. while i think its in the step in the next generations of gaming at the current time its just flawed.

Personally i love controllers its makes gaming fun for me at least.

well, the system is already flawed. After all people without the use of their hands can't play on current consoles

Yeah but not alot of people don't have hands though. Unless they get prosthetic hands then that can be fixed. So i don't think its flawed as you put it.

I like the handheld controllers. If they take them away, I won't buy another system.
