Capcom defends Okami for Wii in official forums

ITANI | October 25, 2007 | News | Playstation 2 Wii
When Okami first was announced for the Wii, everyone thought this would be a great addition to the Wii software library but after knowing it's a PS2 port, gamers have been flooding the Capcom forums saying not another PS2 port and other negative comments. Capcom did not ignore such opinions to be said through out the forum, Capcom actually retaliated. Capcom's senior director of strategic planning and research hit the forums and said that this isn't just a lazy PS2 port. Capcom selected Ready at Dawn for a reason, and if we wanted to make a cheap port we could have selected other of the 50 houses and could have accomplished the job quicker and for less money. But Capcom did not choose to do so because of the fans, the reputation of the company and for the potential of product.

He then continues on explaining that Ready At Dawn is first trying to get the game working on Wii before they or we think of implementing any enhancements. Also the graphics do not need more polygons or an overall upgrade because the graphics of the game are still pretty impressive. Capcom is also not thinking of extending the Okami's lifespan from a 40-60 hour game to a 50-70 hour game.
We selected Ready at Dawn to do the port. These guys are all ex-Naughty Dog and ex-Blizzard, and they have already shipped their own titles that have ridiculously high review scores and sales (and have more on the way). Their attention to detail and technical prowess is among the best of any team I've ever worked with.

Funny how people will complain about what's called one of the best PS2 games being put on the Wii, but barely anyone thought to speak against Anubis II, Ninjabread Man, or any of those other awful ones. Why complain when a great game is being ported?
Makes as much sense as complaining that too many epic games are coming out for the holiday season- which, for those of you that have forgotten, supposedly resutled in the Brawl delay. Well, that and polishing it up. Heh...

Okami would look better as a Wii game. It was a smart move, releasing it for PS2 first because 1) They can know how popular it will be in general public. 2) Work out the kinks in the Wii game that are spotted in the PS2 game.

Okami will be a big hit if they can manage to perfect it and have it released before a new major game comes out.

You say that as if they released it on PS2, knowing that it would later be on the Wii.

Thank god they're actually putting effort into this PS2-port, unlike most companies. I trust Capcom and that other company.

Who cares if it is a port? Unlike alot of the other ports, this is actually a GREAT port. I am overly excited to get this as my PS2 broke before Okami came out and I haven't gotten a new one since. Therefore, I never was able to own Okami, but I did play it. Now I have the chance to fully experience its awesomeness.

I know how you feel, MJ12. My PS2 stopped working a while before Okami was released. I've wanted the game for a long time, though. I'm getting the Wii version, updated or not, assuming it is $30 like Capcom's other port, RE4, was. Of course, an update would be a nice, but it's a fairly long game anyway and should last a long time. I will get this game, without a doubt. The only reason I don't have it already is because my old PS2 broke down, or else I would have bought it a long time ago.

A few extra additions would be nice, though.

Ready at Dawn were the masterminds behind the critically acclaimed Daxter for the PSP. Anyone who doesn't trust either Capcom or Ready at Dawn is out of their *bleep*ing mind. This'll be a great game added to the Wii's library.
