The PlaystationEye deserves a good review. It seems like one of the accessories that you'd borrow from a friend and he'd never want back, and you'd lose it.
Yeah, the eyeCreate software is pretty cool
Image quality is alright, I didn't have the previous Eyetoy, so I can't make comparisons. Image is a bit grainy. It adjusts to darker areas quickly enough though (a listed feature). Image is rather smooth too (60FPS)
Audio is rather good actually, naturally, your voice sounds different, but thats to be expected, but it is fairly clear, I am hearing impaired, but I can hear it fairly well. It is unidirectional, but still works all around
NOTE: Minor issues with at least one of the effects (One of the 'trails' effects), it causes the image to split in two (top and bottom halves) sometimes, each half works, but the effects you're are currently using, process a bit differently on both halves, which cause a visible difference between each half
